Thelma Queen Obituary
Thelma was born October 4, 1928 in Catawba Co. to the late George and Minnie Stallings Leatherman.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Henry Frank Queen and 11 sisters and brothers.
She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and retired from Belk.
She was a former member of Temple Baptist Church where she was a past Sunday School teacher, organized and served in the homebound ministry as well as other ministries in the church.
She was loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and is survived by sons: Dennis Queen and wife, Sara and Tim Queen and wife, Chris both of Newton, daughter: Pam Johnson and husband, Jeff of Hickory, granddaughters: Tammy Dover and husband, Randy of Newton, Candice Justice and husband, John of Newton, Crystal Hildebran and husband, Ricky of Hickory, Kelli Parker and husband, David of Laredo, TX., Makayla Queen of Newton, grandsons: Robert Queen and wife Meredith of Newton, Kevin Queen and wife Lyndsey of Hickory and Ty Queen of Newton, great grandchildren: Hannah Ireland, Emily Dover, Alejah Queen, Alivia Queen, Paityn Queen, Gavin Queen, Allison and Abigail Justice, Lizzie Hildebran, Caroline Hildebran, Madisyn Parker and Bryson Parker and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Dr. Ed Yount and Reverend Ken Swanson officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Thelmas grandchildren will serve as pall bearers.
Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, N. C. 28658.

To the family of Thelma Queen
I was sorry to learn when I returned from vacation that Thelma had died last week. She was always a willing participant at our Wednesday Chapels and Sunday afternoon vespers. As you know, she was always on the go within our halls at Abernethy Lauresl. She was a joy to know and it was my pleasure to serve as her chaplain for the last months of her life.

Oh sweet Thelma, what a day of rejoicing you must be having with our Lord and Saviour! To the Queen family...my heart goes out to each and every one of you during the loss of Thelma. Thelma was surely one of the sweetest ladies I have EVER known. I hope that you all find comfort in God during this time. Know that you all are in my prayers. May God bless you all!

Chris and Tim .....My heart goes out to you during this most difficult time. Having lost my mother a year ago, I know the emptiness you must be feeling. I thought about writing to Thelma when Henry first got sick and telling her how much I loved them both and how much of an inspiration they were as a married couple who truly had a deep love and respect for each other. I never did and I am so sorry. She was such a beautiful woman, always impeccably dressed and full of humor and good will. She sincerely cared for others and showed her concern by her willingness to help in any way she could. She was my Dad's aunt, even though he was 4 months older than she and Wilma were. I am grateful to have known Thelma and I'm privileged to call her my great aunt. Pam, Dennis & Tim, you guys have been so blessed to have such wonderful parents and today, your loss is heaven's gain.
