OFSTAD, Theodor
Theodor Ofstad of Calgary passed away at Wentworth Manor on February 24, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born in Namsos, Norway on January 19, 1926. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lillian Ofstad in 2015. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Lisbeth Weis and his grandchildren Brit Olshansky (Loren) and Daniel Weis of Calgary. Prior to his passing, Ted was able to meet his great-granddaughters, Aria and Lena Olshansky born in November 2017. Ted was predeceased by his three brothers, two sisters and both parents. He will be fondly remembered by his remaining family in Seattle and in Norway. Ted came to Calgary from Norway in 1953 quite by accident, as a friend had a ticket to Canada which he could not use and offered it to Ted. At the time he had been offered a promotion with the Army while serving as a lieutenant and was also offered a position with the police department in Oslo. He never regretted his decision to come to Calgary and he fondly remembers all the years he worked for the City of Calgary, proudly never missing a day of work and enjoyed telling people that he just loved his job. Ted was an avid cross-country skier and being frustrated over the lack of equipment available in Calgary, he decided to start the Norseman Ski Shop together with his wife and daughter in 1972. He worked full time with the city while helping to run the ski shop until his retirement. He then moved with Lillian to the Windermere Valley in BC and enjoyed many years of water and snow sports, spending time with friends and family. There were also the trips to Mexico often twice a year and his love for the country and the people was well known.Ted on a regular basis loved to share how he was so lucky and had a wonderful life. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Danish Canadian Club, 727 11 Ave SW, on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
