Theodore Kirchner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 18, 2016.
FALLS CHURCH - Theodore Edmond Kirchner, 92 years old, died March 15 in Hospice care in Fairfax, Va., after a long illness. Mr. Kirchner was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary Joan Holt Kirchner, who died in Williamsburg, Va., in March, 2013. Mr. Kirchner, born Nov. 16, 1923, was a life-long Virginian. Born and raised in Arlington, he attended high school at Mount Saint Joseph in Baltimore, Md., and was a freshman at Georgetown University when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed at airfields in England and France during the war. After three years of undergraduate study at Villanova University he received his degree from George Washington University. After graduation he joined the family electrical contracting firm, Biggs & Kirchner, Inc., retiring years later as the firm's vice president. Mr. Kirchner was an avid sports fan, particularly of Washington's professional football and baseball teams. He was also an ardent golfer, a passion he shared with Mary Joan. They were members of Washington Golf and Country Club and, later, Ford's Colony Country Club after they retired to Williamsburg. Mr. Kirchner was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Mr. Kirchner is survived by his seven children, John, Robert, Paul, Ted, Bruce, Timothy and Joan, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Murphy's Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, Va., where there will be a visitation Sunday, March 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 7401 St. Michael's Lane, Annandale, Va., at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 21. There will be a private interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests that donations in his name may be made to Catholic Charities USA: www.catholiccharitiesusa.org

A favorite childhood memory: Ted Kirchner and Ed Ryan tending their burning piles of Fall leaves curbside while misc kids from among their 14 combined played in the street around them. Condolences to the children and grands of a man who was always smiling, always eager to help with a neighbor's broken bike chain, and who seemed to have the happiest of marriages, families, and life.

Diane Jake and Family ...

The man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. Ted was all this and more. He will be missed. To be absent from this place is to be present with the Lord...
Those we
Love don't go away,
They walk beside us
everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always
near . Stilled Loved, still missed
and forever dear.
God's love and ours...
