Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 25, 2018.
Theodore Henry Marsh was born in 1919 to his parents, Vernon and Maud Marsh, in Carlisle, Iowa. Ted and brother Don worked hard while growing up helping support the family during difficult economic times. The family attended a Plymouth Brethren assembly where, at the age of twelve, Ted received Christ as his Savior and later was baptized in a horse trough in the basement of the church. Ted attended Iowa State University and then transferred to Fletcher College where he met Mildred Willert in his senior year. After graduation Ted traveled with a quartet until he enlisted in the army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Ted was sent to the University of Chicago Graduate School where he earned his Certificate of Meteorology for service in the Army /Air Force.
After a year in the Army, Ted and Mildred married in 1943. Shortly after, holding the rank of Captain, Ted was assigned to India and then to China. During his deployment, his first son, Ted Donald, was born; Ted didn't get to see him until almost 18 months later. After the war, Ted and Mildred ministered briefly in churches in Tennessee and Iowa. Following a visit by a missionary from Central American Mission (CAM), Ted and Mildred sensed the Lord leading them into full time missionary work. To prepare, Ted enrolled in Dallas Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Theology (ThM) degree. During the years as student in Dallas, Texas, Ted and family served at the Scofield Memorial Church, Ted using his musical ability as music director.
In 1952, Ted and Mildred along with children Ted, Marilyn and Gary headed to Central America with CAM International. Not too long after, Ted and Mildred's fourth child, Judy, was born in Honduras. Over the eighteen years with CAM, Ted and Mildred primarily served in El Salvador ministering in the areas of youth and camp ministries. There was a brief period at the home office of CAM in Dallas to coordinate the 75th Anniversary of the mission. This was followed by Bible teaching at institutions in Guatemala and Mexico. In 1970, the Marshes received a call from Detroit Bible College where Ted served as Registrar, Director of Admissions and Director of the Evening school. Mildred served as a teacher of Spanish and librarian. It was during this time also that Ted began to serve on staff with the Cornerstone Baptist Church and enjoyed many years of fruitful ministry.
A number of years after his dear wife Mildred went home to be with the Lord, Ted moved to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he resided until his recent passing on March 23, 2018 at the age of ninety-eight. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Maud Marsh, his dear wife Mildred, son Ted (Ruth) Davis-Marsh and brother, Donald Marsh. Ted is survived by his children: Marilyn (Tom) Michael, Gary (Joyce) Marsh and Judy (Vince) Messina. Ted is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
