Theodore Leroy Meyer, 84, of Boynton Beach, FL and East Hampton, NY, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him at his Florida home on February 25, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Best Meyer, his three loving children, Deborah Boland of East Hampton, NY, Christopher Meyer of Los Gatos, CA and Boynton Beach, FL, and Donna Fischer of Sag Harbor, NY, along with four adoring grandchildren: Devon Meyer, Carli Fischer, Kassidy Meyer, and Drew Fischer.
Born in Rockville Centre, NY in 1937, Ted graduated from Cortland State University and led a long and rewarding career as a physical education teacher and football and wrestling coach at East Hampton High School. He also founded and ran a tremendously successful antique shop, Ted Meyer’s Harbor Antiques in Wainscott, NY, catering to Hamptons clientele and interior designers. And, in his spare time, he ran a sport-themed restaurant in Bridgehampton, NY called One of the All Time Greats. In earlier days, Ted served as a proud member of the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Ted lived a full life and enjoyed many happy years of retirement. His passions during retirement were golf, painting, crossword puzzles, and watching his beloved family grow and thrive. For the past 12 years, he and Joyce were members of Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach where they enjoyed many friendships, and where Ted played golf regularly with a tightknit group who affectionately nicknamed him “The Mayor.”
Ted will be remembered for his big personality, quick wit, generosity, sense of humor, and mostly for his love of friends and family. He was an inspiration and life coach for so many.
Friends may call to pay their respects on Sunday, February 27 from 1-3pm at the Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 N.E. 6th Avenue (North Federal Highway), Delray Beach.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ted’s remembrance to St. Jude Children’s Hospital for cancer research and treatment at https://www.stjude.org/donate. www.stjude.org
