Mr. Savalas was my fifth-grade Language Arts teacher at Lee Avenue School, Hicksville, 1963-64. He introduced us ten-year-olds to American poetry and to Roget's Thesaurus, and gave us creative writing exercises. From his remarkable inspiration, I became a lover of words and reading, an editor, a creative writing teacher, and a poet. My lifelong thanks.

I remember seeing Teddy on Telly's show when Telly walked up to him in the audience and said, "You look familiar... You look like someone who's diaper I use to change... Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you my kid brother, Teddy..." It was right after I had met Telly at the home of my uncle Tony Angelos in Chicago (Winnekta, IL) during his visit.

My sympathies go out to your family. Mr. Savalas was my 5th grade teacher at ACS in Athens Greece. Nick and I were close friends before he passed. I remember Teddy as a kind and wonderful teacher and he will always be in my heart. It's been a long time but the memories are still fresh.

My deepest sympathy to his loving family and many friends. Mr. Savalas was my 6th grade teacher at Alice P. Willets Elementary School in Syosset, NY. I never forgot his kindness and the joy he showed all of us in doing what he loved. He also instilled many memories of his beloved Greece and taught us all to dance the traditional dance. There was no one like him, and I will always remember this very special man. RIP

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Savalas' passing. He was my 5th grade teacher at Lee Ave school in 1964. I still speak of the live bug display we had in the window facing the hallway and how the praying mantis ate her mate. He was a great teacher and friend.

My condolences to the family, especially Athena and Aphrodite whom I had the pleasure of working with way back when at Loehmanns. I'm sure their kindness and good nature stemmed from their father.

We have been neighbors for so many years and
would have payed our respects but regretfully
we were unaware of Teddy's death.
You were so close in life that we know that you will continue to feel that closeness even
now at the time of his passing.
With our deepest sympathy.

What a kind soul - I worked with Teddy for many years in radio here on Long Island -- I feel lucky I just spoke to him about a month or so ago -- and found his holiday card just this past Monday on my desk.
Sending loving wishes to his family. Sorry we can not be there with you tonight in person, but our hearts are with you all.

Athena, I'm so sorry to hear of your dads passing. The mention of his backyard taverna brought a smile to my face. Not sure that you remember me but we spent time together in classes at ACS, again to run into each other at Hofstra and in Huntington. My condolences to your family.
