FORT WORTH -- Theron Lavon Smith, 89, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 22, 2014. SERVICE: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5 in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Inurnment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to South Hills Christian Church, 3200 Bilglade, Fort Worth, Texas 76133 or Trinity Habitat for Humanity, 3345 S. Jones St., Fort Worth, Texas 76110. Theron (T.L.) was born November 24, 1924, in Yantis, Texas, to Willie and Clara Smith. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School at the age of 16. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1947, he attended TCU and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Mathematics. Theron began his career in 1952 in the computer and information technology field with General Dynamics and retired after 30 years in 1983. He continued his career with FFP Marketing Co. for another 20 years. Theron was an avid reader, loved music, and enjoyed ballroom dancing. During his childhood, he became interested in genealogy - which became a lifelong hobby. Another favorite pastime of his was playing table games with his children and grandchildren. Theron will be fondly remembered for his telling and re-telling of his favorite jokes and stories. Theron was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marjorie Richardson and Arjorie Eason. Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Barbara Harvison Smith; Son, Mark Smith and wife Meredith; daughter, Becky Graham and husband Joe; daughter Cindy Huggins and husband Grant; grandchildren, Kristen Graham, Casey Graham, Rachel Elmore and husband Travis, Ryan Huggins and wife Ashley, Autumn Hyun, and Cole Hyun.
