McHENRY - Thomas P. Amore, 58, of McHenry, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
He was born Dec. 19, 1945, in Chicago, to Robert and Mary (Sanders) Amore. On July 12, 1969, he married Sandra L. Jung at St. Peter's Church in Spring Grove.
His family moved to Solon Mills when he was 11 years old.
He attended Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock. He graduated in 1964, receiving a football scholarship at Austin Peay State College in Clarksville, Tenn.
He served in the U.S. Navy, and after returning home, he began his profession as a sheet metal-worker. He was a member of Local 73 of the Sheet Metal Workers International for more than 38 years. Companies he was affiliated with were North American, J.W.P. and Automatic, and for the past three years, he worked for his brother at Mid America Heating & amp; Cooling.
He was a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Spring Grove and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry.
He was a former member of the Richmond Jaycees and coached his daughter's Pig Tail League team. He was an avid sports fan, and he truly enjoyed NASCAR racing and golf.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years; a daughter, Kim Eckles of Lakemoor; two sons, Joseph (Julie) Amore of McHenry and Jason (Kristy) Amore of South Elgin; three grandchildren, Brianna, Elizabeth and Katlyn; his mother, of McHenry; his father-in-law, Richard Jung of McHenry; three brothers, Terry (Marge) Amore of Solon Mills, Wayne (Chris) Amore and Damien "Buster" (Cindy) Amore of Twin Lakes, Wis.; five sisters, Sister Jean Amore SMIC of Paterson, N.J., Peg (Ray) Stevens of Spring Grove, Barbara (Ron) Williams of Winfield, Pat (Bill) Vavrik of McHenry and Fran (Gil) Michelini of Fishers, Ind.; 18 nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, in June 2000; his mother-in-law, Margaret Jung, in 1999; and a niece, Cheri Amore, in 2002.
The visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at George R. Justen & amp; Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry. The Rev. Dennis Sanders will officiate.
Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Cemetery in Cary.
Memorials made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 500 N. Dearborn Suite 305, Chicago, IL 60610, would be appreciated by the family.
