Thomas BARBOUR Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 27, 2016.
BARBOUR, Thomas Kirk
February 16, 1975 - January 31, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of our beloved Tom. Tom will be forever missed by his parents Kirk and Barbara, children Hannah and Jake, their mother Charity Barbour, sister Christie, brother-in-law Ian Ritchie, nephews Rory and Hayden, uncle Kent, aunts Karen and Kathy, cousins Mona, Erica and Michelle and devoted dog Daisy plus countless friends.
Tom was a natural athlete; golf, hockey, tennis and skiing, but his passion was fishing. He looked forward to his annual fishing derby with buddies; Joe, Todd and Ryan. He loved having fun with his many friends and family especially his adored children. He loved life and truly made the most of it. He left us too early, but while here he made us laugh and appreciate our time with him.
Gone Fishing
Celebration of Life will be held on March 3, 2016 at West Vancouver Yacht Club, 3:30 - 6:30 pm. Flowers gratefully declined.

I only met Tom last fall when he started coming to the coal mine where I work. I enjoyed getting to know Tom as we proudly shared stories of our kids in hockey, places we had travelled, and our love for fishing. I'll miss his cheerfulness when he brought Timmy"s and left them with me so I could get first pick out of the box. Altho Tom hadn't been coming to the mine for very long he left a lasting impression on all of us. We'll miss his expertise and professionalism but most of all his infectious personality. Condolences to all his family and many friends.

Kirk, Barb and family: I cannot begin to tell you how sorry we are to learn of the loss of your son. We never met your children but I will never forget growing up on Kings Ave, and when you married Kirk and lived in the family home. Your son must have been a wonderful person and memories will be ones to cherish forever. Our thoughts are with you. Larry, Mimi [nee Reynolds] Nordby. Pender Island, B.C.

Dear Kirk & family.
What sad news to read about your son Tom's passing. Although we never met, he looks very much like his Dad and the way I remember Kirk from the 1960's. Tom sounds like the kind of guy you'd be proud to call your son.
Our sincere condolences to you and your family.
Kind regards,
Frans & Cora Vanlakerveld.

Barbara, Kirk, and Christie, I am deeply saddened by the news of your son/brother passing. I used to live and teach in Castlegar and occasionally, would go into the 2 for 1 pizza to get dinner. I wish at the time I had known that he was a part of our greater West Vancouver family. Treasure those wonderful memories of him. Sincerest sympathies, Jeremy Palmer

Dear Barb, Kirk, Christie and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Tommy. My heart will always remember him as my little next door neighbour who was one of our playmates growing up. Climbing fences, making mud pies, hiding from our parents... we would do anything so we could all stay outside on a hot summer evening while you all sat on the front steps chittering and chattering. We never wanted to grow up - we wanted to have fun forever. I hope Tommy's children get to run and play as much as he did when he were young. Warm wishes and love to you all.

Life can be so unfair. Tommy brought you great joy and your pride in him has always been evident. He was both a father and a son and his death is too sad.
It is wonderful that Tom had Hannah and Jake. They will remember him and know a part of themselves through you, their cousins and Christy. They will know their dad was cherished.
Love Peter & Caroline

Dear Kirk, Barb, Christie and family,
I am so terribly sorry to hear the sad news of Tommy's passing. It seems just yesterday that I was babysitting him when we all lived on Kings Avenue, and now he is taken away - much too young. So hard to find appropriate words to express my sincerest & heartfelt condolences on your loss.
With much peace,
