Thomas Beatty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 2 to May 3, 2023.
Fletcher Beatty passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on April 30, 2023 after a long battle with the disease of addiction at home in Cary, NC. He was 40 years old. Fletcher is survived by his father, Tom Beatty, his mother Cathie Beatty, his sister Kate Borizov, his brother-in-law Boris Borizov, and his nieces Savannah and Lilah Borizov. A private celebration of life service will be held at a future date. Donations may be made in Fletcher's name to https://www.safeproject.us/, an organization founded to destigmatize addiction and provide resources for those affected by the disease.

His Story

When he was born, Fletcher was so big and beautiful that the doctor said take this boy up to the nursery and get him a cheeseburger. He was our "wild man," always on the go before he could even crawl, making motorcycle sounds with his mouth and steering in his baby carrier. Once he got moving he was unstoppable, endlessly cruising the neighborhood on his bike at an early age.

In high school Fletcher fell in love with his greatest passion, music, and excelled on the high school tennis team. He was a Chicago boy at heart where he watched the Cubs at Wrigley Field and consumed live music like water, always expanding his eclectic taste in music and movies, before anyone else had heard of them.

Fletcher attended the university of northern Colorado in Greeley, studying business management, but later found that his passion was for working with his hands and became a certified pipe fitter, like generations of Beatty men who welded before him. He started his career at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi and quickly attained the status of journeyman. Most recently he was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 421 Union and was proud of his work, always studying to become more knowledgeable and proficient.

Fletcher was smart, hilarious, gentle with children and animals, and had the best laugh that drew smiles from the rest of the room. We called him the dog whisperer because all dogs immediately loved him. Fletcher didn't know how worthy of love and special he was but he loved others with his whole heart. He wore his heart on his sleeve and his mother was his best friend in all the world. He was the most accepting and non judgmental person you'd ever meet, believing "no one needed more shame." Indeed. He taught his family how to love unconditionally.

Fletcher we will hold you close and miss you every day until we meet again.

I am an old classmate of Fletcher's. We went all the way through school from Madison Elementary to Hinsdale Central. I was looking at an old yearbook and wanted to see where the world had taken every one. I'm so sorry to hear about Fletcher's passing. He was a kind person with an easy laugh, and I remember him being a goofball in grammar school.

Back when we lived down the street from our cousins in Weaverville, Fletcher was home and Tom & Cathie had left for the weekend. We invited Fletcher to come for dinner and to watch the city's 4th of July fireworks that went off from downtown, in our driveway. We had acquired a bag full of fireworks of our own. We ask Fletcher if he would do the honors of setting off our personal fireworks display. He and our oldest daughter had a blast setting off one of the best fireworks display for the rest of the family.
He was always great with our kids and a gentle soul with our pups.
Fletcher will be missed by our family.
We'll do fireworks again when we meet up in heaven. Until then, rest in peace.

As an apprentice I worked with Tom in Durham, NC around 2018. He spent his time with me on our breaks and helped me with my welding. He gave me his welding hood when he upgraded his own and that hood is still hanging at my work station. He was well liked and will be missed.
