Thomas Bernardy Obituary
He was born March 20, 1950 in Yokosuka, Japan. Tom was a veteran, having served with both the United States Army and the National Guard. He was an avid motorcyclist and was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He was a life-time member of the N.R.A. and he worked at Great Lakes for PWC for many years. Tom was a special man who drew people to him, making friends everywhere he went. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Deborah (nee Dowdy) Bernardy; their adopted son, Eddie Collins of Arizona; siblings, Stephen (Tonia) Bernardy of Winthrop Harbor, Michael (Sue) Bernardy of Kenosha, WI, Kathy (Christopher Jones) Bernardy of San Diego, CA, Timothy Bernardy of Kenosha, WI, Nancy Bernardy of San Diego, CA, Mary Bernardy of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Karen Bernardy of San Diego, CA; his in-laws, John (Linda) Dowdy of Washington State and Carol (Ray) Hebior of Florida; his brother-in-law, Doug (Maggie) Dowdy of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law, Cathi (Joe) Bartel of San Diego, CA and Jessica Lynch of Oregon; he also leaves behind his beloved nieces, Lindsay and Megan Bernardy and Meagan Dowdy; his nephews, Justin (Tamara), Joshua, Jerred, Marcus, Matthew, Joey, Johnny and Jeffrey; as well as his brothers in arms, David (Barb Smith) Ashby, Donald (Deborah) Spradlin, Jim (Judy) Kutzler and Charlie Drake and Darryl Boling, among other close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine (nee Krueger) and Alphonse Bernardy; and his older brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007, at 7 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with Pastor David Adams officiating. Private cremation will follow. Visitation will be Monday, July 23rd, from 4 PM until time of services at Congdon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Disabled American Veterans has been suggested. I just heard yesterday and it saddens me a great deal to hear this. I haven't seen him for many years, since we were kids. Just moved back in the area, I wanted to look up old friends, he was one I wanted to see again. I was a friend of the family, and I wish to send my prayers to all. He will be missed a lot!

My heart aches for Steve and the rest of the family. I haven't seen Tom since high school, but I remember him fondly. I was very saddened to hear of his death.

I am so sorry to hear about Tom. My sympathy and prayers go out to all of Tom's family. I went to good ol' NCCHS with Tom and double dated with him and his date for prom in 1968 and had a blast! He was a fun guy to be around.
