Thomas DIGBY Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jul. 21 to Jul. 22, 2012.
DIGBY,Thomas Charles
April 7, 1925 - July 15, 2012
Our dear Dad decided to join Violet, our Mother, this past Sunday. They had 63 wonderful years together before her passing in Dec 2010. Tom leaves behind his four devoted children, Robin (Linda), Julia (Bob), Kevin and Cynthia. He'll be missed dearly by his six grandchildren Sean (Kristin) and their children Lauren and Colin, Darren, Wesley, Andrew, Timothy, Jessica. Tom is lovingly remembered by his surviving sister Dorothy (Potter), along with nieces and nephews and their families, not to mention close friends that he considered family. He was predeceased by his sister Florence, all too soon. Born and raised in South Vancouver, Dad had a cherished childhood. He was devoted to his family and we think he was somewhat spoiled as the only son of Charles and Hilda. Many of his boyhood chums remained lifetime friends. Tom served proudly in the Navy from Dec 1943 until May 1945. Dad received recognition for being a 65 year member of the South Vancouver Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, which also acknowledged him as their longest living member. Upon his return from the Navy, Dad worked in sales management for many years before becoming a Transit driver until he retired in 1990. He loved driving bus and loved entertaining the passengers, as we've been told. He met Violet shortly after returning from the Navy and they were married and spent their life together with their children and remained in the same house for 61 years. Family life and good friends were Tom's priorities. Throughout his life he lifted us up with laughter. Humour was his recipe in life. He will be remembered by all as the quintessential host and life of the party. Right to the end Dad kept his sharp wit and sense of humour. His memory continued to astound those who knew him, especially the lyrics to songs and poems. It would be fitting to say that his legacy to family and friends would be to save the tears of sadness. Let tears of laughter flow from your heart and keep family and friends close. The family would like to give special thanks to Staff & Home Care providers at the Royal Arc
h Masonic Home. Family & friends will be notified of a Celebration of life for Tom.

Kevin, Cynthia, Julie and Robin,
The love you feel for your dad is so evident in the announcement. I do remember your dad as a sweet man, with stories and a joke to tell. My thoughts are with you all.
