My deepest condolences to the family of Tom Gentile. I only learned of his passing today. He was a superb professor and I was honored to have taken his law class one year ago.
He also offered me my first teaching job at Saint Aloysius.
I was just thinking last week that I should email him to let him know that I completed my goal of becoming a school administrator.
He was very encouraging.
Tom will be truly missed. This is a great loss.

As as a coach and as a teacher, Mr Gentile was both tough and fair,to
his players and his students, yet his big heart could only make us forever
beloved of him. My deepest condolences to the family of Thomas Gentile.

This is a tragedy, indeed. I am one of "The Garfield Gang" where Tom came to teach the St. Peter's courses here in the classrooms of our public schools. His brilliance, kindness, logic, and humor got us through the most challenging of topics. Many of us completed 2 MA degrees, back to back. And now, many of us are now in administrative positions thanks to Tom's dedicated teaching and interesting presentation of material. He inspired us to keep on going. The people in Garfield know that Tom is with Our Father, but how he is being missed here on Earth.

Tom and I were great friends - indeed, you could say brothers - at St. Peter's during our college years. We shared many wonderful times studying together, hanging out, playing softball, talking baseball, music, and life in general. Although life took us down separate roads, I loved him like a brother and will always cherish the memory of his friendship.
Godspeed, "Rocky".

From 77 through 81, G was my high school teacher at Saint Michael. I had always wanted to be a teacher. He propelled my desire to become one. Years ago, a student asked me why did I become a teacher. I responded, "TR Gentile". Today, I am a college professor, and like G, who made his classes fun, I always do the same for my students. Rest in Peace, G.

Mr. Gentile was a great man, wise teacher, and a friend. He was my history teacher when I attended Hudson catholic high school in the late 1980's early 90's. He knew my father - my father was an English professor at St. Peter's college. News of his passing saddens me because I remember the passion he had for teaching all of us. It's very difficult to be a teacher of history but he brought the subject to life. I consider him to be one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. It's one thing to be a teacher in a classroom, but it's a completely different experience when you have a teacher who brings history to life to the point where you are motivated to share the passion for knowledge. This loss is deep and premature - there are no words of comfort I can bestow other than to express my deepest sympathies to his family. Its been over 20 years now but I still remember the lessons he taught me. To those reading this who have not been fortunate enough to have been a student of Mr. Gentile's I can only say this . . . MAKE NO MISTAKE . . . He was an amazing teacher and we, as students all knew it at the time. If you can remember what he taught you almost word for word 25 years after the fact - then you've been given a gift - - and he had it. God bless his soul.

Tommy, you were a mentor and the best friend a guy could ever have. You and I had so much in common that we could pretty much talk about anything---Aquinas, Augustine, the Jesuits, American history, education, WWE, Yankee baseball---we covered it all. I never would have advanced as far as I did in my career without your help, and for that I am forever grateful. You will be sorely missed, but you'll live on in my heart and the hearts of all those you touched during your 40-year career in education. "Atque in perpetuum, frater, ave atque vale."
My heartfelt condolences to Joanne, Michele, and TJ. You will all be in my prayers.
