Thomas J. Harkins, 70
Thomas J. Harkins, 70, died April 15, 2020, from complications from a fall. He wa born July 10, 1949, in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of John and Louise Harkins. He was a graduate of Tottenville High School.
Tom served with the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division, 1st Recon Battalion during the Vietnam War (1969-1971) where he was a decorated veteran receiving two Purple Hearts and many other medals and awards.
After his military service he returned to his job at Nassau Smelting and Refining
Tom was passionate about his work for the VFW where he held many offices over the years including Post Commander for VFW Post 6511, Richmond County Commander, and District #2 New York Commander.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanie his son, Thomas Jr., daughters, Lisa and Michele King and her husband, Joseph; four grandchildren, Francis, Christopher, Samantha and Norah; his brother, James and his wife, Karen, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass celebrating Tom's life will be held at a later date.

We are so very sorry for the Harkins family.Great memories, working at Nassau and forming V.F.W Post#6511 Brian Wallace Post. He will be sorley missed by many. R.I.P Tommy

my condolences to the family for their lose .i grew up with tommy on fisher ave. in tottenville. we lived across the street from each other. i am sorry for his lose.
