Thomas Hartley Obituary

MIDDLEBURG -- Thomas E. Hartley, 67, of 160 Keene Lane, passed away at 11:56 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
He was born May 22, 1940, in Swengel, a son of the late Robert J. and Rhoda E. (Catherman) Hartley. On Sept. 12, 1964, he was married to the former Marjorie Ann Keene, who survives.
He was a 1959 graduate of Middleburg High School, where he received the Keystone Farmer Award.
He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 and saw service at the Bay of Pigs invasion.
He retired in 2003 from the Polk State Center, Polk.
He was a member of Ingomar United Methodist Church, Franklin Park.
Following his retirement, he and his wife became full-time travelers. He enjoyed canoeing, cycling and fishing and will be remembered as a loving husband and father and adoring grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Clayton and Shannon Hartley of Harrisburg and Jonathan Thomas and Mary Ellen Hartley of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, Cameron Dileo, Clayton, Margaret, Catelyn and Lilly Hartley; one sister, Betty R. Schreffler of Northumberland; two brothers, Robert T. Hartley of New Columbia and Glenn R. Hartley of Winfield; and two generations of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and David Hartley, and a niece, Minerva Carr.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Penns Creek, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 with interim pastor Michael Price officiating.
Burial will be in Penns Creek Union Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers, and is accepting contributions towards the establishment of a memorial fund to benefit organ transplant programs. Contributions may be sent to Marjorie Ann Hartley, 160 Keene Lane, Middleburg, PA 17842.
Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.

I worked with Tom at Polk Center. He was a great delight to be around and an excellent worker and Foreman. Tom will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. His friend, Donna.

I went to highschool with Tom and Marjie in Middleburg and had not seen them since graduation. I was very sorry to read of Toms death and I am sure he touched many lives.Our prayers are with you and your family during this sad time.
