Thomas J. Hayes

Thomas J. Hayes passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the age of 76. Born in Milwaukee, WI on April 30, 1944, Tom and his bride Lynn moved to Pensacola in 1969. After a successful career in the paper industry, Tom retired early to enjoy what he loved most: his family, golf, and traveling.

Tom was a lifelong golfing enthusiast who embraced golf's core values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. He embodied the game on and off the course, and shot his age often.

Tom had a great appreciation for other landscapes and languages. He and Lynn explored the world together; from the great heights of Mt. Kilimanjaro, to many scuba trips to dive "among the fishes." He took his whole family with him on these epic vacations whenever possible, thus instilling a love of travel, snow skiing, and adventure in both his children and 5 grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lynn Boege Hayes, his son Kevin (Peggy, Lauren and Leah), daughter Andrea (Kent, Hannah, Mitchell, and Paige Dickson), 4 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Tom will forever be remembered as an especially wonderful husband, father, and Poppy, who loved his family and enjoyed the company of friends. His patience and deliberations brought peace to many, and his quick wit and smart sense of humor entertained us all, especially his golfing buddies.

Not a day passes that I don't think of my dear friend Tom Hayes. I remember him especially in daily morning prayer and remember the example he set for others.

I had the distinct honor of being one of Tom's friends. He was a true gentleman in the fullest sense of the word, always polite, soft-spoken, and honest. A man to be admired!
