Thomas Hoffman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 25 to Jan. 28, 2022.
Thomas William Hoffman passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the age of 94. Tom was born in Carroll, Iowa to the late Leo and Julia Hoffman. Beloved and devoted husband of Catherine Hoffman. Loving father of Robert Hoffman, Mary Claire Hoffman, Cheryl Denenea (Johnny), Elizabeth Hoffman, and Jean Walker (Doug). Proud grandfather of Emily Hurt (Joseph), Andrew, Catherine, and Henry Mitchell, Patrick, Madelaine, Elizabeth, and Aimee Denenea. Survived by siblings, Pat Brown, Jane Ledbetter, Gene Hoffman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Terry Osborn, Margaret Schiltz, Bob Hoffman, and Toby Wegner. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Tom moved to Washington DC and graduated from Georgetown University. He began his career in government services where he met Cathy, his wife of 63 years. He later transitioned into the private sector and the family moved to New Orleans in 1972. Tom retired from Latter & Blum after many years in the Commercial Real Estate division. Tom was the definition of a gentleman who enjoyed reading, gardening, and family gatherings. Tom approached his diagnosis with tremendous strength and grace. His desire to live independently in the later years of his life was admirably achieved. Our family is eternally grateful to Ochsner Cancer Center who provided care with dignity and kindness during his later years. All are invited to the visitation at 11:00 am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Friday, January 28, 2022. Service to follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel with a private interment at a later date. We invite you to share condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Tom's memory to Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center Fund (giving.ochsner.org, select Tribute tab) or a charity of your choosing.
