THOMAS HOLGUIN

Holguin Thomas Thomas James "Hoagy" Holguin died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at his Anaheim home, surrounded by his family. Born in Los Angeles on September 22, 1953 to Lorenzo and Cande Holguin, he was the 4th of 8 children. During his childhood in Norwalk, young Thomas picked up the nickname of musician, Hoagy Carmichael. Thomas came to Anaheim over 30 years ago, where his adopted home captured his heart, as well as his community service. In addition to running his successful contracting firm, "The Hoagy Company" where his niece, Deanna became his right hand. Hoagy also served as a Trustee for the Anaheim Union High School District, and North Orange County Regional Occupational Program. He served on the Executive Board of "Smile for a Life Time", and was an Advisory Board Member for CSUF Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Hoagy passionately supported various charities that served law enforcement and military service members. He was named Los Angeles Police Department Citizen of the Year in 1990, 1992 and 2006, and was a proud member of the Anaheim Police Officer Honorary Association. Hoagy has been the recipient of the Baker to Vegas Larry Moore Award, given to individuals with over 25 years of support to Los Angeles law enforcement. Recently, the Kenny Tanaguchi Award given by the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club was renamed the James "Hoagy" Holguin Award, in recognition of his decades of support for the department's Long Distance Running Team and the Annual Baker to Vegas Relay Race. Hoagy supported numerous non-profit groups such as Youth Leadership Anaheim, the Anaheim Halloween Parade and Fall Festival, the Anaheim Republican Assembly, and CATER. But he also acted quietly outside of any corporate structure, providing for the college education of several young people, "just because he could." His most recent project was the Anaheim Small Business Organization (ASBO) to support Anaheim's smaller "economic engine" he believed to be the true backbone of his hometown's financial future. "Jimmy" is survived by siblings Anthony, Sherrie, Michael, Carrie, Colleen, Claudia and Erica; as well as his 3 daughters. His beloved wife, Patty offered him a 2nd family, as her children became his children, and ten grandchildren were adored by the most enormous teddy bear of a Grandfather a child might hope for.
