Thomas Hulien, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
Thomas C. Hulien, Sr., known affectionately as Tom, passed away on December 24, 2024, in Marlborough, Connecticut, at the age of 84. Born on November 22, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, Tom's journey was one marked by a deep commitment to his family, his business, and his community.

Tom attended the University of Michigan, where he not only excelled in his business studies but also shone as a star player on the university football team. His spirit of adventure and service led him to join the Navy during the Vietnam War. While he never saw battle, Tom served with distinction aboard Naval ships, traveling extensively through Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean, and coastal Europe.

After his military service, Tom went on to co-found Tiger Medical Inc. with his partner, Ben McGregor. For about 25 years, they successfully ran this medical supply business, which became a cornerstone of support for hospitals across the New England corridor. Tom was deeply cherished by his employees and customers alike, known for his dual nature as both a thoughtful introvert and a lively social chatterbox. His penchant for pranks brought joy and surprise to those around him, particularly his family.

Family was the center of Tom's world. He was a devoted caretaker to his granddaughters, Amelia and Brier, whom he raised alongside their mother, Tatum, on their small horse farm in Columbia. He was actively involved in their lives, from taking them to school and horse shows to tending gardens and cooking homemade meals. His love and dedication were the framework of their family life.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Jack Hulien; his sister, Linda Leeson; his brother, Dean Hulien; and his sister, Carol Connell. His family, colleagues, and friends will remember him as a beloved figure whose legacy is characterized by his generosity, leadership, and the deep connections he fostered throughout his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11th, at 11:00 am at the Bolton Congregational Church, 228 Bolton Center Road, Bolton, CT, led by Senior Pastor Brandon Yaghjian-Tison. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bolton Congregational Church Outreach Program, a cause close to Tom's heart and one he fervently supported to aid community members in need.

Honor and memories we have of Uncle Tom that can never be forgotten. He was so warm and caring. He had such great stories of his grandchildren and giving he was to them , it was amazing. We looked forward to his visit to Frankenmuth when he and Aunt Debi came to visit. They knew how to tell us loving stories of his children and grandchildren. How selfless and loving man he is !!! Love to you Debi & family he will be so missed by his immediate family. Love and many hugs.
May God wrap his loving arms around you all as Tom would. He is hanging in there with Jesus and looking over you.
