Thomas David Jacobson

Spring Lake - Tom was born and grew up in Westfield, NJ graduating from Westfield High School in 1980. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1984 with a degree in business, and joined American Express' Financial Management Training Program, working in their New York and San Francisco offices.

In 1993, he took over as the CEO of Jacobson & Company, his family business founded in 1889, of which he was a member of the fifth generation. Tom grew Jacobson & Company from a small ceiling business to one of New York's largest ceiling and drywall subcontractors. Under his leadership, the company completed iconic projects such as Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully and David Geffen Halls.

He was involved with numerous charitable causes, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Trinitas Medical Center Foundation in Elizabeth, and Fulfill Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, in addition to many other causes.

He was a golf fanatic and treasured his friends from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ; Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ; and Spring Lake Golf Club in Spring Lake, NJ. He was an active biker who could often be seen biking up and down the beaches of Monmouth County. He also loved rooting for the Yankees, Knicks and Giants, and was a longtime Knicks and Yankees season ticket holder.

Tom was known to all for his kind, generous and outgoing nature. His can-do attitude was infectious and inspired the thousands of people he employed during his 31 years leading Jacobson & Company in addition to his many, many friends.

He is survived by Marybeth, the love of his life, his college sweetheart and wife of 36 years, and his son, Steven, who followed him into the family business as the sixth-generation member of Jacobson & Company. Visitation will be on Wednesday November 6, from 4 to 8 pm at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street , Belmar NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday November 7, at 11:00 am at Saint Mary's RC Church, 1 Phalanx Road,Colts Neck, NJ 07722.
