Thomas Francis Maloney, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on October 23, 2020. A lifelong resident of the Chicago area, Tom was born November 13, 1932 to Thomas and Frances (née Schleyer) Maloney and was the beloved brother of Patricia (Edmund) Cody. Tom enlisted in the Navy in 1952 and as a Korean War Veteran, did a four year tour in the South Pacific. During this time, he crossed the equator four times while stopping in Japan, Formosa, China and Pearl Harbor. Tom met the love of his life, Joan, and married in 1957. They began a family and set down roots in South Holland. They became active members in the community, St. Jude the Apostle Church and the Holy Name Society. They enjoyed entertaining, especially costume parties for family and friends. Tom was a lifelong electrician and a member of IBEW Local 134. He was co-owner of Cullen Electric. Tom was most proud of managing the electrical work for Comiskey Park for 28 years and being named 1992 Big Shillelagh!

Tom is survived by his wife Joan (née O’Donnell), his six children Molly, Tommy (Deloris), Keary (Raymond) Fitzgerald, Billy (Gretchen), Jimmy, and Katie (Mike) DeMario, his twelve grandchildren, Danielle, Mitch & Mat Seibert, Samantha & Tom Maloney, Mary Kate, Meg & Sean Maloney, Brittany Maloney, Jade, Jordan and Jasmine DeMario as well as his dear sister Patricia (Edmund) Cody. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Tom & Frances Maloney and William Rapp, as well as his grandparents Charles Schleyer Sr. and Frances Schleyer (née Gall).

Our deepest condolences to Joan and the entire Maloney clan. Mr. Maloney a great friend to my parents and us kids for so many years. Always the life of the party — and he had plenty of competition. They all partied like rock stars — our generation never held a candle to them. Great Pacesetter, St. Jude and White Dox Park memories. He’s partying again in heaven with family and friends. Rest in Peace. Jim & Peggy McSherry

Uncle Tom on a Tee Lake jeep adventure, 1962

Back in the age before seat belts, Uncle Tom piled twelve of us kids into a WW-II surplus jeep, then careened around Tee Lake, through the woods, and into an old orchard where we ate apples. In addition to the laughing and screaming, we frequently broke into an orchestrated cheer of "Hooray for Uncle Tom!", a sentiment which continues to this day.

Dear Joan and Family,
I was so very sorry to hear that your dear Tom has died. You and he had such a happy marriage, raised a wonderful family and managed to have a lot of fun while working hard, throwing memorable parties, attending Sox and Notre Dame games, taking trips to many places including your beloved Ireland, all the while putting Faith and family first. You and Tom and your children have left us many happy memories, but I know you will miss your 'sweetheart' and so will we. My sincere condolences and much love, T

One of the best family men, gentlemen and human beings in the cosmos. And the the true love of Mrs. Maloney, his beloved wife. I still remember the toga costume party, with Mrs. M. As Cleopatra.♥ Unforgettable, joyful memories. May we meet again.

Tom was the kindest man I’ve ever met. Many years ago he was so great as I started my apprenticeship! I’ll never forget. And the fun and travels that was had with the O’Connors and Ossyra’s was legendary. He will be missed.
With love, Mary Anne
