MANNIX JUDGE THOMAS C.
Judge Thomas C. Mannix, 82, formerly of Patterson Heights, died peacefully on October 1, 2010. He was born April 5, 1928 to the late Thomas and Ellen Cavanaugh Mannix. He grew up as an only child in Patterson Heights surrounded by a close-knit extended family, including the Withrows and Weiskopfs, and many childhood friends who he remained close to throughout his life. Tom graduated from New Brighton High School in 1945. He went on to college at Bucknell University and graduated from Dickinson School of Law in 1952. During the Korean War, he served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. While stationed in Washington, D.C., he met his beloved wife Jean McGonigle Mannix and they were married in 1955. That same year, Tom was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar and began his career as an attorney with the firm of Whitmire & Mannix in Beaver Falls. In 1978, he was appointed by Governor Shapp to the Beaver County Court of Common Pleas and was subsequently elected in 1979 and retained in 1989. He continued to serve on the bench until his retirement in 2008. He was always very honored to serve the Beaver County community in his judicial position - working with the courthouse staff, the attorneys of the Bar and his fellow judges. Tom was very active in the local community and a board member of various organizations, including the Carnegie Free Library, the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, the Blackhawk Foundation, Penn State Beaver and the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, where he served as president of the local and state chapters. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom cherished the friendships he developed over his lifetime. He greatly enjoyed traveling with his family, including yearly vacations to his wife's home-state, Massachusetts. He was an avid tennis player, continuing to play well into his seventies. Above all, his commitment to family was paramount. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 49 years, Jean. He was a devoted father to his four surviving children and their spouses; Tim and Linda Mannix of Wheaton, Illinois; Kathy and Terry O'Donovan of Annapolis, Maryland; Maura and Dave Bailey of Hingham, Massachusetts and Paul Mannix and Moira Cain-Mannix of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania. He always tremendously enjoyed time spent with his nine grandchildren: Michael and Marie Mannix; Conor, Erin and Sean O'Donovan; Caitlin and Caroline Bailey; and Deirdre and Maeryn Mannix. Friends and family will be received Thursday, October 7 from 4 to 7 pm and Friday, October 8 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at LUTTON CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME, 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa, Pennsylvania 15010, where prayers will be offered Saturday at 9:30 am followed by Mass at Christ the Divine Teacher, 116 Thorndale Drive, Beaver Falls at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Chippewa Twp. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Beaver County Foundation (a fund supporting charitable causes which directly benefit residents of Beaver County) and should be sent to the Beaver County Bar Association at 788 Turnpike Street, Beaver, Pennsylvania 15009.

Maura, Tim, Paul & Kathy:

Rich & I were sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was always so friendly and welcoming to me even though I was a "new addition" to Crescent Beach and Ripple Street. Please accept our condolences.
