Thomas McCann Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2024.
Thomas James McCann, age 82, of Janesville WI, passed away at Agrace Hospice in Janesville on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Tom was born in Crawford County WI on December 31, 1941; the son of Charles and Margaret (Dorsey) McCann. Tom was a proud descendant of the Ojibwe (Chippewa) through his maternal line. He grew up a hardworking midwestern farmer until he graduated from Soldier's Grove High School in 1961. Although he would never forget his roots, he set out to find work and experience life. Tom was drafted and honorably served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Teasdale on June 25, 1966. The two settled in Janesville WI. Tom worked for the General Motors Corporation, starting on the assembly line, and eventually retiring from the maintenance department. Tom wanted to give his children the best life he could offer; so, for many years he also worked several night jobs at local restaurants.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. In his younger years he floated across the dance floor to many a waltz with his wife. He had a heart for the underdog and often stood up to bullies on their behalf. Tom loved animals. He raised show pigeons, bred champion Pomeranians, and rode his horse, Mariah. He loved to eat a good meal and always had a taste for chicken. Most of all, he loved his family, home, and time together, often saying, "Come sit down and talk awhile." He frequently reflected on the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren telling anyone about his pride in them. Papa, we love you more than words can say, forever and always.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Troy (Lisa) McCann, Jennie McCann, Patti Jo (Ed An) McCann, Peggy Sue McCann; his grandchildren: Alec, Elsa, Brielle, Blake, Roby, Baylee and Logan; great grandchild, Hadley; his siblings: Carolyn Grim, Tim McCann, Patrick McCann, William (Mary) McCann, and James (Rose) McCann, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph; two sisters, Dixie and Marybeth; his granddaughter, Kia Sue; and his wife, Mary McCann.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday November 1, 2024, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME 1800 E. Racine St. Janesville WI; with visitation held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
