Thomas Mullins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 1 to Mar. 2, 2015.

Thomas Orr (Tom) Mullins, a lifelong resident of Dallas, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Dallas. Tom was born on November 20, 1962 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas to Delia Staley Crossley and Thomas Ivan Odom.

He is survived by: his children, Austin David Mullins of Nashville, TN, Staley Ann Mullins of Denver, CO and Jack Ivan Mullins of the home; mother, Delia Staley Crossley and step-father, Michael Edwin Crossley both of Dallas; step-mother Marie Odom of Marietta, GA; his brother, Wendell Jefferson Orr Mullins of Denton, TX and sister, Elizabeth Odom of Marietta, GA; brother-in-law Ty Sweeney and nephew Zach Sweeney of Allen, TX. He leaves his loving companion, Susan Carol Jones, numerous cousins and many close friends. He was preceded in death by: his father, Thomas Ivan Odom; step-father, Clark Benjamin Mullins and his wife, Dana Sweeney Mullins.

Tom grew up in Dallas attending Highland Park and St. Michael's elementary schools, The Episcopal School of Dallas, The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, NJ and The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Tom was a proud member of St. Michael and All Angels Church, The Order of the Sons of Hermann, Lakewood Country Club and a founding member of the Highland Scotch Club in Amarillo, TX.

Tom's career began at C.B. Mullins, Inc. and Hydro International Services Corp. He then worked in sales for Muenster Milling Company and finished his professional career at Cactus Environmental Company. Tom was President of Cactus when he retired in 2011 to focus on private ventures, The Dana Sweeney Mullins Foundation and raising his son Jack.

Tom loved hunting and fishing, expressing an occasional opinion, the 2nd Amendment and a Bushmill's on the rocks. He was an Eagle Scout and was honored as the Outstanding Scout in the nation. He was an accomplished athlete, earning Prep School All-American honors in football at Lawrenceville. Above and beyond his many accomplishments, he was most proud of his children's achievements. He took particular delight as a booster of the University of Montana Football Program, the Southwestern University Women's Basketball team and passionately coaching (sideline) Jack's athletic endeavors. He was fiercely devoted to his family and friends and will be remembered for exactly who he was – a loving father, husband, son, brother and friend. He had a big heart and will leave a big hole in all of our lives.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Church 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, TX 75225. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Clark, Jamie Jeffries, Jack Mullins, Wendell Mullins, Austin Mullins, Tim Craddock, Travis Short, Ty Sweeney, Joe Staley III and Dale Johnson. Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Culver Educational Foundation, 1300 Academy Road #153, Culver, IN 46511.

The service was so touching and Austin and Staley your words and readings were so special. To Delia, Susan and Jack and the rest of the family you are all in my prayers. I met Tom and Dana at the Nasher Sculpture Center in 2005 when I first started there. I have such wonderful memories of those times. Tom was always right there to support Dana in all things Nasher store related and became friends with us all. He was always nice, sincere and always in a great mood. He made me laugh all the time. I will always have both of them in my prayers.

I met Tom when our daughters played for Southwestern University Women's Basketball Team. We had many road trips to their games. He first introduced me to a new app "Pandora" on one of our road trips. He was so excited about this new app which I continue to use today.. We bantered every year about our sports teams, Texans/Cowboys & Rockets/Mavericks. There were a few wages.. He made you feel like you've been friends forever. I will miss my kind, caring & generous friend. My heart goes out to his children. Thinking of his family with much love. Azizi Family
