Thomas Mutschelknaus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 12 to Nov. 14, 2023.
Thomas Filmore Mutschelknaus, age 70, died Friday, October 6, 2023, at his home in Wickenburg, AZ.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 18th, at Martinus Lutheran Church in Utica, SD.

Thomas was born October 5, 1953, to Filmore and Darlene (Schenkel) Mutschelknaus in Scotland, SD. He grew up in Lesterville, SD, and attended high school in Scotland, SD.

On September 15, 1973, he was united in marriage with his wife Margaret (Weisser) and had two wonderful sons, Jamison and Joshua. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. On November 9, 2011, Thomas lost his loving wife after a valiant fight with cancer. After Margaret's passing, Thomas found love again and married Brenda (Crays) on January 1, 2014.

Thomas was passionate about gold prospecting and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with everyone around him. Thomas spent as much time helping and teaching those around him as he did gold prospecting himself. Thomas' passion for gold prospecting led him on countless journeys to new places to prospect, including Colorado, Alaska, California, and Arizona. And though he may have found gold in the earth, he also discovered the beauty of the outdoors, adventure, and the true treasures of friendship. Thomas was always an optimist and made friends wherever he went.

Thomas was a kind, loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Brenda; his sons, Jamison (Karen) Mutschelknaus and Joshua (Wendy) Mutschelknaus; two stepchildren, Justin (Jane) Cameron, Nathan (Ali) Cameron; seven grandchildren, Daisha, Logan, Isabella, Aden, Renee, Aaric, and Adalee; brothers, Benjamin Mutschelknaus, Joseph (Molly) Mutschelknaus, Paul (Donna) Mutschelknaus; Sisters, Barbara Cisar and Peggy (Richard) Walloch.

He is preceded in death by his father, Filmore Mutschelknaus; wife, Margaret Mutschelknaus; and brother-in-law, Donald Cisar.

Thomas will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will live forever in our hearts.
