Thomas Ordner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2010.
Thomas Michael Ordner, 22, of Sigel, went to be with the Lord Thursday Jan. 28, 2010, in rural Sigel. A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Sigel. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. parish wake service and a Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic School. Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends may send condolences to www.hallfuneralchapel.com. Tommy was born Sept. 1, 1987, in Effingham, the son of Thomas and Susan (Probst) Ordner. He worked for Esker and Walker Concrete Construction Co., Teutopolis, and J and V Pork, Sigel. Tommy Ordner's quiet demeanor steadied life while his lighthearted smile lit up lives. People listened when Tommy spoke. When he did speak, it was "right on," ... sometimes teasing, sometimes just the thing to say to make you smile. Thus that gorgeous smile spread to those around him. Family was first for Tommy. He enjoyed going out with his friends; but if there was a family gathering, he was there. Tommy the son made his parents proud. As an uncle, cousin and nephew, he spread big love. Tommy the brother, Tommy the friend, was reliable and protective; he showed up just when you needed him, with that grin, or if necessary, a tough look. Tommy the grandson shoveled driveways, mowed lawns and played cards. He was their Mr. FixIt. Friends and family describe him as "the type of person to drop everything to help out in times of need." A beautiful smile entered heaven Thursday. We speculate that Grandpa Ordner greeted him and introduced him to a few pinochle players. They are probably already on their second game. While we wish we could have played one last game with him too, we thank you for your smile Tommy. We will remember how you spread it and will continue spreading that special love. Tommy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Sigel, and was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11100, Sigel. Survivors include his parents; brothers, Jason and wife Lana Ordner of Stewardson, Matt and wife Wendy Ordner and Chris and wife Christina Ordner, all of Teutopolis; sisters, Elizabeth Ordner and fiance Bill Cassin of Chicago and Alicia Ordner of Gibson City; nieces and nephews, Paige, Caleb, Jaden, Gage, Calvin, and Kaelyn; grandparents, Ambrose and Stella Probst of rural Sigel and Mary Ordner of Effingham. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, John Ordner.

I will remember your son in my daily prayers, especially during the Sacrifice of the Mass. May Mary, Mother of Sorrows, wrap you in her mantle and bring comfort and healing to you. Tom, Sue & Family,

What a sad loss. Our families have always been so close. You've been there for us in our time of need and I hope that we can be there for you in return. I will always remember Tommy as that smiling little boy with the blonde hair following after me and Elizabeth at the house. I wasn't fortunate enough to know him as an adult, but I'm sure he was just as gracious, supportive and generous as the rest of your family. May you find peace during this time. Just know that you have an angel in heaven watching over you.

Tommy "was a gift". Susan wrote that in her son's baby book. Tom repeated that same message at the funeral Mass. That sentiment really touched me! You were returning your precious son to God. A 'gift' that was so hard to part with. Tom and Sue, your beliefs are an inspiration to all. Norm and I pray for you during your journey of grief. The passage of time will ease the pain. The joyful memories of our dear nephew Tommy, will live on in our hearts.

Tom, Sue, Alicia, and Ordner Family:

I can't even begin to explain how much Tommy has had an impact on my life. So many of my grade school memories at Sigel include him and they will always be cherished. From the countless times we went toilet papering, the never ending basketball games that we attended for Katie and Alicia (and snowball fights at the KC Hall afterward), the YIA and CYO dances (in which I tried so many times to get him to dance), to all the partying at the bars in the last couple of years. I am going to miss Tommy so much. I'm going to miss seeing that sparkle in his eyes. I'm going to miss seeing his reaction to my teasing. And I'm gonna miss trying to mess up his hair since he always liked it to be perfect. Tommy was a one of a kind guy...always willing to put others needs first and always there to try and make you smile. I will never forget all he brought to my life. I will never stop praying to him. And I absolutely cannot wait to see him again someday!!!!

Tommy, Tom, Thomas, and T.O. names I'll never forget. Of coarse there are many more, but you Tommy were a great person to everyone around. You did anything anyone else wanted to do. Keep telling them stories and giving more memories.

Dear Tom, Susan, Jason, Matt, Chris, and Alicia:

All I can say is that Tommy's memories will live on forever. His priestly ways as a kid, his cawlick growing up, and playing pinochle with the Probst family will always bring me smiles when I think of Tommy in heaven. He has left an imprint on so many lives and will not be forgotten.

To Tommy,

I LOVE YOU TOMMY! You are a damn good pinocle player! :) MUAWAH...lots of love your way...and hogs (hugs) and kisses! ;)

LOVE,

Tom and Sue, I am lost for the right words to say. As I hugged you the first night at your home, I did not want to let go. I could feel your hearts beat and knew that God was sitting right there on your shoulder. You know how much He loves you,as we were taught that as a child in the song "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know." I am sure that you taught Tommy this song as you did all your children. So So So many people would do anything to take away the hurt from you. As you told me in church Sunday Tom, Tommy really belongs to God and he was given to you and Sue only for a little while.
What faith--what love- what a faith filled family. I love you. Betty Zumbahlen

Dear Tom and Sue and Tommy's Brothers and Sisters,

Our hearts ache for you and for his extended family as you live through this terrible tragedy. The obituary is so well done that we feel like we knew him. You were blessed to have had him for 22 years. He surely was already ready for the glories of heaven, while the rest of us still have rough edges to be smoothed. Many people live their entire lives, never knowing such love and grace. That makes the hole in your heart even deeper and more painful. Please know that we are holding you in our hearts and prayer and sharing your sorrow.

January 30, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
