Thomas J. "TJ" Reilly Jr., 72, of Huntingdon Valley, a retired financial executive who contributed his accounting talents to educational and cultural organizations, died at home Saturday, Sept. 15, of heart failure.

Mr. Reilly spent his professional career with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co. and was a partner when he retired in 2000. He was widely acknowledged as an auditing specialist, his son Thomas said, and he testified as an expert witness in tax-auditing cases.

Mr. Reilly served on the Blue Ribbon Commission of the National Association of Corporate Directors and was a member of the executive committee of the Philadelphia chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a director of inTEST Corp. and Astea International at the time of his death.

Mr. Reilly served on the boards of Fort Mifflin on the Delaware and Arcadia University. He was past treasurer of the Schuylkill Conservancy, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, and the American Historical Theater and was treasurer of the British Officers' Club of Philadelphia at the time of his death.

In addition to their home in Huntingdon Valley, Mr. Reilly and his wife, Ann, kept apartments in Manhattan and on Rittenhouse Square. As members of the Royal Heritage Society of the Delaware Valley, they were active in the preservation of Ormiston Mansion in Fairmount Park. The society operates the 18th-century mansion.

In 1999, Mr. Reilly and his wife cochaired a benefit to fund programs for the disabled at the Elwyn Institute.

They enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises. Mr. Reilly was devoted to his wife and helped care for her for more than a year before her death in 2011, their son said.

A native of New London, Conn., Mr. Reilly earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Villanova University in 1961 and then served in the Navy in Florida, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean.

He joined Arthur Andersen after his discharge in 1965.

In addition to his son, Mr. Reilly is survived by another son, Michael; a sister; and three grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Ann and TJ were such a huge part of our family. Most famous for Christmas Eve as Santa and Mrs. Claus and all our family parties. They will be missed.
