Thomas Richter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 28, 2025.
Richter, Thomas Larson found peace at home on May 10, 2025, two days after his 75th birthday. Proud father of Christian and Jackson. Brother of John (Anita) Richter, Steve (Linda) Richter & Cindy (Brian) Flynn. Uncle of Matt (Jenni) Richter, Emily Richter, Anna Richter, John (Kerry) Richter, Stephanie (Riley) Yemm, Allyson Jones, Madelyn (Justin) Pipol, Charlie Flynn & Matthew Flynn. Further survived by nine great nieces/nephews and his former spouses, Barbara (Jahn) Dorner, a life long friend and April Elrod, the mother of his children. Proceeded in death by his loving parents, Betty & Bucky (August) Richter, cherished grandparents, aunts & uncles.

Tom led Richter Realty and Investment, Inc., a real estate company that was known for its expertise in commercial property management. They had a loyal client base that extended in some cases for decades. He was often chosen by law firms to act as receiver in court cases involving troubled properties and was widely respected for his capabilities and work ethic. He was supported in these efforts by long tenured employees who were dedicated to their properties and to each other. His company was in many ways a strong and close family.

Tom's passion for the outdoors took him to the Rockies for skiing and the Salmon River for whitewater rafting and fly fishing. He was an accomplished downhill skier and picked up the difficult art of spey casting easily. The "River of No Return Wilderness" was a place that lived in his heart full time and he was always scheming a way to return. His many trips and rafting experience on the Salmon and its ever-changing grade 5 whitewater were his favorite adventure and his guiding skill was one he was most proud of. Locally, he hunted ducks in many places from South Dakota to South Hole, a hunting club he belonged to. He was the treasurer of that old club for decades. He spent many fall days watching the sun rise over the marshes with a succession of his Chesapeake Bay and Labrador retriever hunting partners. He loved musky fishing, our Wisconsin lakes and days on the water in Vilas County. But through all of it, he most loved his sons, Christian and Jack and his time with them.

Tom was part of a very close-knit family who stayed together in Wisconsin in the tradition of the 6 generations of the Richter family. His friends were life-long and often as close as family members.

Per Tom's wishes a private memorial service for family and close friends was held at UNITY Lutheran Church, Cross of Life Campus.

Tom, you fought cancer with all you had, now it is time to rest. We love you! Brookfield -

I have known Tom since we were neighbors in the 1950s, and our parents were close friends. Tom was more extroverted than me for sure, but he was always a gentleman, like his Dad. We had a wonderful, old-fashioned neighborhood long before these current digital times. RIP, Tom

We got to know each other at Milton College where we joined the same fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi. We shared many good times during our stay at Milton. Fond memories that I'll never forget. Rest in peace my friend.

Condolences to the Richter family. Tom and I were close friends in high school and roommates at Milton College. We had more good times than I dare talk about here. I was very sad to hear of his passing.

As life would have it we did not connect often as our families and careers kept us busy. I thought of Tom and all my friends from high school often. Tom will be missed by all that knew him, he was a great friend. Rest in Peace old friend.
