COEBURN – Rev. Thomas Bill Slemp, 74, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Pound, Va., son of the late Jessee and Carrie Sanders Slemp. He was founder and pastor of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired federal mine inspector. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Slemp.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Massey and husband Richard of Coeburn; two sons, Thomas K. Slemp and wife Gina of Coeburn, and Gary Slemp and wife Sharon of Coeburn; four sisters, Carlalee Nash of Wise, June Arwood of Lebanon, Ind., Sandra Lambert of Woodbridge, Va., and Nancy Killenbrew of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Thomas Bill Slemp will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church, St. Paul, Va., with Rev. Joel Cantrell officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Pallbearers will be Travis Duty, Grant Massie, Louna Lawson, Rick Ward, Randy Blevins and Terra Lawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathaniel Blevins and Chad Slemp.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood. Online condolences may be sent to the Slemp family through our Web site at www.castlewoodfuneralhome.com.
