Thomas SPRAGUE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 24 to Jun. 25, 2012.
SPRAGUE, Thomas Eaton (Thom)
Passed suddenly on June 20th, 2012 surrounded by his family at Ridge Meadows Hospital. He will be missed dearly by his wife Dwaina; his children Tyla (Kevin), Bianca, Elliott (Danielle), Molly (Peter); and his grandchildren Benjamin and Graydon. The son of Kloman and Madeline Sprague, Thom was born on October 23, 1947 in Windsor, Ontario, where he grew up with his siblings Allison, Douglas, Mary and Peter. He was an alumnus of the University of Windsor. The loss of Thom will be felt deeply by his family, friends, clients and community. A lawyer for over 30 years in the Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam area, Thom treated every client like a close friend, serving them with compassion and respect. His love for life and the joy he derived from it were evident in everything he did, whether it was hitting the road on his motorcycle, running, taking thousands of photos of his family or simply working outside on his property, building, burning and chopping down things. A memorial service celebrating Thom's life will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 4 PM at the SFU Diamond Alumni Centre, located at 8888 University Drive in Burnaby (free parking in Lot C). There will also be an intimate gathering of family and close friends on Tuesday, June 26 from 3-6pm at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel at 11765 224th Street in Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation. For more information, please refer to http://www.facebook.com/ RememberingThomasSprague.

Not in looks. Not in what they say.
Just in what they are.”

As I heard about the passing of Thom Sprague, tears filled up in my eyes... I had been a client of his for the last 3 years... He worked so hard for me, he also cared for me so much... He would call about business but he would always end up telling me about the sun run he did or the margarita's in Mexico or funny stories about his daughter! He always spoke of his family! He was such a caring man! He worked so hard for me and I thank him for everything he has done for me... I will never forget Thom Sprague... Life is so unfair sometimes and these are one of the times... My heart goes out to the Sprague family! He was truly an amazing man! I still sit here in disbelief, hopefully we will met again. Hopes and prayers xoxo

I was recentley talking with Thom about a case I wanted him to represent and he gave me the best advice ever. He asked me,"what would make me happy?" and I replied "a holiday". He then proceeded to tell me about his recent trip to Mexico with Dwaina and how relaxing and fun it was for them. Thanks for the advice Thom, I enjoyed my holiday!
Rest in Peace, my friend.

I was very sad to read of Thom's passing. He was a vibrant, caring individual. Even when the roles where adversarial, he treated all with respect and dignity. He always had a 'boyish' twinkle in his eyes, when negotiating, and that made the 'game' fun. Rest in peace, my friend.

Well I was shocked to read about Thom in today's paper. I knew Thom from early high school days in Windsor. When I left law school, Thom was beginning and as I moved to Calgary I lost touch until one day I ran into him in a courthouse in Vancouver...so glad to have known him. He was always a confident guy which I am sure was evident to all his clients. The profession has lost a very good man.

Over many years as a client of ours I came to know Thom as a gentle and sometimes a little bit mischievous guy. Inevitably our conversations would turn to our families and, from the smile on his face and light in his eyes, it was obvious that Dwaina, his children and especially his grandchildren were his greatest joy. Thank you for all you have given to so many of us.

I knew Tom way back in 1989 as my lawyer when I lived in Pitt Meadows. He was very laid back and had all of the answers to my questions. He always listened to me attentively. He loved talking about his family and trips to Penticton. A really nice guy.

Tom was two years ahead of me at Windsor law school. He was a very cool guy then, as he was in practice out here in Vancouver. We always spoke when we met at the courthouse, always warm and friendly with me. A cool guy right to the end.
