The thing about Tom that stands out in my mind was his congenial persistence at his chosen task. There was always discussion of options and opportunities, course corrections if you will. But the general navigation was well established and steadfast, without much accompanying drama. The effect was one of making the moderately difficult appear mundane. Tom seemed to steer lifes problems toward solutions by creating a place that was just a bit less stormy and a bit more civilized than the surrounding environs. It was the exact opposite of stirring the pot. A skill with increasing value in a too political world.
He took me to a few job sites, explained the impact of ethnic diversity on his house party schedule (while I guarded the keg), and generously opened the door for too many Thanksgiving's on the road once I landed in North Carolina and had a travel itch to scratch.
Tom explained the rationale of involvement with a volunteer fire department that kept beer in the pop dispenser.
He listened better than you expected too. And it never bothered me in the slightest to be a Tommy in the land of just Tom.

Always a great guy to be with in High School. He set the standard for thoughtful comments. Studious always and a great example to all of us from Patton. I am sure he will be missed.
