THOMAS WHALEN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2024.
THOMAS MARK WHALEN, known affectionately as Tom, passed away on June 9, 2024, at the age of 76 in his hometown of St. Paul, MN. Born on April 1, 1948, in St. Paul, Tom's life was marked by his spirited personality and diverse interests.

Tom served his country as a Specialist Four (Technician) (E4) in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he specialized as an Engine & Powertrain Mechanic. His precision and skill earned him a Marksman medal, reflecting his dedication and expertise during his time of service.

After his military service, Tom embarked on a career as a Line Mechanic at Gillette, where he worked until his retirement. His commitment to excellence was evident in both his professional and personal life.

Tom was a passionate enthusiast of cars and motorcycles, a charter member of the Fossils Motorcycle Club, and a member of the Pharaohs Car Club. His love for dancing was well known among his friends and family, as he was always the first one on the dance floor. Tom enjoyed playing pull tabs, sharing drinks, and laughter with family and friends. He was also a prolific storyteller, whose tales were as captivating as they were heartwarming.

Survived by his loving partner, Linda Byrne; Linda's son, Mark (Stephanie) Kujala; Mark's children, Matt (Gina) Miller, Cassidy (Jeff) Miller, Seth and Mya Kujala; and Linda's great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Tripp, and Saylor Miller, Tom's legacy of joy and camaraderie will live on through them. His fur baby, Oliver, also held a special place in his heart.

A service to honor Tom's life and legacy will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 12:15 PM in Assembly Area 2. A celebration of life will be held at Dukes Pub and Grill on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 4:00 PM. His life will be celebrated as vibrantly as he lived it, surrounded by the many friends and family members whose lives he touched.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." Tom was an amazing guy and will be missed by everyone that knew him. He had the most fancy and clean cars, that drew praise. Hopefully he´s doing some burn outs in heaven with my dad, Junior..and stepdad Dickie...and all the other great Pharoah"s that passed before him. Rest easy Whalen...you well be missed but never forgotten
