Thomasine Carr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2025.
Thomasine "Tommie" Carr (Collier) died at the age of 83 in Louisville, Kentucky on March 1st, 2025. Tommie spent her final hours with loved ones and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tommie was raised in Wise County, Virginia, one of nine children, where she shared a special bond with her beloved grandmother. As a young adult, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky, but distance never diminished the close ties she kept with her siblings and their spouses. From an early age, Tommie's vibrant personality shone brightly, leaving a warm and lasting impression on everyone she met, lighting up every room she entered.

Tommie's deep love for people inspired her to pursue a second career as a professional caregiver, a role she embraced with compassion and dedication. Following this, she enjoyed a fulfilling position at the Derby City Antique Mall before retiring.

Not only was Tommie passionate about her work, but she was also an avid hiker who traveled across the United States to explore scenic trails, a frequent visitor to the zoo, and a devoted library enthusiast. Even in retirement, Tommie gave back to others through volunteering at the Churchill Downs Museum.

Tommie will be remembered as a supportive and loving mother; a doting grandmother eager to tell anyone who would listen about each of her 7 grandchildren; and a joyful friend always ready for a cup of coffee or long walk.

Thomasine was preceded in death by her parents Emmitt Lee and Dixie Collier, her siblings Virgil, Elmer, Lester, Jimmie Dale (J.D.) and Ronald Collier, her ex-husband Terry Carr, and her son in law Steve Garrett. She is survived by her daughters, Sena Garrett and Sheri Lyle (Raymond), siblings, Jerry Collier (Pat), Alice Gala (Al), and Della Amburgey, her grandchildren: Lynn Garrett (Udayan Vaidya), Leigh, Carly, Collier, Max, Luke, and Rebecca, many loving nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

A celebration of life will be planned and shared. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Louisville Zoo or the Louisville Free Public Library.
