Tiania Tutt Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2024.
Tiania Tutt Adams passed away on July 26 at her family home on Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.

Tiania was born in Michigan, but spent most of her life in Colorado and Vermont. An incredible all-around athlete, T was a skiing phenom from her earliest days at Ski Broadmoor. She graduated from Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont, and was named to the US Ski Team in 1978. She skied competitively at CU Boulder before joining the Women's Pro Tour. Following her retirement, Tiania began a lifelong career coaching young skiers, first in Summit County, Colorado, then, after her marriage to fellow ski coach Charlie Adams, in Stowe, Vermont. She co-founded the Mt. Mansfield Ski Academy in Stowe and created 45 North Camps for developing athletes. After moving back to Colorado to be closer to family and in support of her own children's skiing careers, T coached for Team Summit, Summit High School, Team Monarch (her old Pro Tour sponsor), Ski Club Vail and finally Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club. T was the kind of coach every athlete and parent dreams of - talented, nurturing, insightful and, most of all, fun. In every walk of life, Tiania was known for her exceptional kindness. She spent her final years living off-grid, helping raise farm animals and snowmobiling to her car to coach in the winter.

Tiania was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Servatius, and father, William Thayer Tutt. She is survived by her husband, Charlie, children Colby and Duncan Adams, grandchildren Spring and Olen, siblings Michael Tutt, Chelle Tutt Mason, Elizabeth Zimmerman, her best friend Chaco, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club (http://www.tssc.org/) or The Flying Pig Farm in Manitou Springs, CO (https://account.venmo.com/u/Flyingpigmanitou).

A celebration of Tiania's life will be held at her family home on Hastings Mesa outside Ridgway in the fall.

T and I grew up running around the Broadmoor, having fun with various activities and seeing what we could get away with on our bikes, and skiing. We were adventuresome teens enjoying the world. As adults, we appreciated each other's lives, families, animals and skiing. She was one of my longest and dearest friends. She taught me to take risks and be strong. My favorite memory as a teen is driving her 3 on the tree, Bronco, on the Old Stage Rd. As an adult, I enjoyed seeing her awesome place outside of Ridgway. She was one of a kind and I have so many good memories. Thank you, T. You are dearly missed by me and many, until we meet again, I pray and thank God for your friendship.

I did not know her well, but I could tell, Tiania was good one! Sad news but the world is better because of her

This is shocking and sad news. I met and became a part of her life, mainly through Tiania's old friend Steve Roy. After spending some time in Telluride and seeing what an amazing mother and grandmother she was, I was completely touched. Life will never be the same without her, but to live through her values is what I hope to achieve. Hugs to all of you!

Tiania was a neighbor and friend. I didn't see her much, but when I did, she was always so friendly...walking with her dogs. She always smiled and had something positive to say. I'm so terribly sorry that she's gone.

My first memory is of meeting Tiana at the Broadmoor ski school. We skied together some but Tiana was on to bigger things soon after we were in black hats! Peace to you T and to your entire family as they grieve. Michele E

As one of her cousins, T was always T - strong, humble, adventuresome, compassionate, determined and fun! All my life I have admired her. I can still hear her laugh and see her smile right now. The photo is from a Gray - Tutt camping trip in Montezuma, Colorado. Kay and Mom are doing their posing for the camera and T is planning the next adventure - pointing to a mountain across the valley that the older cousins ended up climbing and glissading down - all led by T, of course:) God, we're going to miss you, T

My earliest memories of T are from Ski Broadmoor-and races around the state. I always looked up to her. My last memory of her was a recent serendipitous meeting in front of the Broadmoor cleaners-laughing heartily as she and Chelle were trying to fix a bike. So grateful to have known her and to have shared some wonderful pieces of life together. Love to Chelle and Michael and T´s extended family.

I met Tiania indirectly while doing the town challenge racing at Monarch. She was coaching the kid's team but was so gracious and welcoming to everyone as they competed whether she just met them or knew them for years. She was generous with compliments and praise and would give a helpful tip just as freely. She was a presence on the mountain that made it feel more like home. I'm glad to have been around her for even the limited time that I was.

Walking our dogs together when T stayed at Chelle's house next door is a memory I cherish. Ket & I stayed at T and Charlie's house in Salida and now we live there! T will be missed.

Sending my deepest sympathy to Chelle, Michael and all of T's family. She was a wonderful person and athlete. We knew each other since grade school and she was always, most importantly, a friend.
