Tim Stephenson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2023.
Timothy Alan Stephenson passed away on April 5, 2023, in Hallettsville, Texas.

He was born to George and Betty Stephenson on August 19, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas, and spent his youth on the family farm outside of Texhoma, Oklahoma, where he and his three sisters attended grade school. He graduated from Sandia View Academy in 1968.

Tim met Barbara Stewart at Campion Academy and the two married in 1968. They welcomed son Sean in 1969, and daughter Tricia in 1971. They lived on the farm where Tim partnered with his father to raise cattle and farm the land.

As a young man, Tim enjoyed a wide range of outdoor adventures, from hunting, camping, and fishing to alpine skiing and riding dirt bikes. Ever the tinkerer, he built CB radios and kept all the farm equipment in good repair and could fabricate anything needed.

In his thirties, he discovered sailing and would spend as much leisure time as possible at Lake Meredith exploring on his 24-foot sailboat. It was around this time that he met the love of his life, Sharon Harrington, from Stratford, Texas.

Eventually, Tim and Sharon left the Panhandle and headed South to Port Aransas to live out their dreams of coastal living and sailing on their boat Jamin. Warm, welcoming, and social wherever they went, Tim would make friends and could talk to anyone. They enjoyed fishing, digging for oysters, and getting together with friends. In 2002, he joined the Brotherhood of the Coast, "a highly disorganized loosely organized group of people who are bound by love of the sea and a sense of friendship."

Tim and Sharon were married in Sherman in 2003. Their love of sailing and boat life took them to Orange Beach, Alabama, where they lived on their boat Phantasea for many years. Texans through and through, they would eventually return to their home state in 2015 and were happy to live closer to family.

Tim is preceded in death by his mother Betty, father George, and younger sister Linda Hughes.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, son Sean, daughter Tricia (Johnson), Sharon's children Christi Brown, Kent Harrington, and Shelley Harrington; his sisters Carol Gibson and Cheri Barber, as well as 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be sent to Sharon Stephenson, 30294 Waller Gladish Rd., Waller, TX 77484.
