I was a pupil of Timothy's at Birkenhead School from 1960 to 1967 and owe him so much. He set the high standards of musicianship to which I have always tried to aspire. I shall miss our frequent chats and will always remember his wonderful sense of humour and his love of life. My thoughts are with all his family at this sad time.

We are sorry to hear of Tim's death. His work for the British Institute of Organ Studies was greatly valued, and his urbane presence at the committe meetings that I chaired was always appreciated. We also very much enjoyed your parents' visit to our house some years ago.

I am also saddened to hear of Tim's passing. I was a member of the Birkenhead School Chapel Choir, Choral Society and Orchestra in the 1960s, and the standards which he expected and obtained from us were quite exceptional. Not surprisingly, many of his former students have become successful in the music world thanks to his inspirational talents as a performer, conductor and teacher. I owe my continuing love of classical music entirely to Tim's teaching. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy at this sad time.

Very sad to hear of Tim Lawford's death. I was a pupil of his in the 1960's at a time when there were a number of excellent organists coming through the school (not myself, I hasten to add!) Tim was an inspiration.

Very sad to hear this news. I had just written a Christmas card to him and sought to check his full address on line when the obituary notice popped up. I must have written the card at the time the funeral was taking place. Please accept my condolences. Glyn Mon Hughes
