On March 18, 2018 our beloved Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend departed this life at Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Timothy Webster Mayfield, Jr. was born to the late Timothy and Hannah Mayfield in Sussex County, VA. He was reared in the church by his God-fearing parents, and at an early age joined the Hunting Quarter Baptist Church, Stony Creek, VA, where he was baptized. He was later affiliated with Rev. Ike’s Prosperity Ministry in NY, and the Faith Landmark Church in Richmond, VA. In recent years he visited New Hope Baptist Church in Waverly, VA, with his daughter and would enjoy many visits to the rehab center in Emporia from the former Pastor H.P. Cason. Wherever he would travel near or far, he always remembered “God is in your heart!”
Timothy Mayfield affectionately known as “Marvelous Mayfield” as he was so called in the beauty industry, worked for many years, as a barber and master hairstylist. He owned, operated and worked at many salons on the east coast for a career that spanned over forty years. He worked with the renowned stylist Cadillac Brown, his business partner in the early 1960's at salons, as the Celebrity Style House of Richmond, VA, and the House of Process of Norfolk, VA. It was there he fashioned styles for artist such as James Brown, Rev. Ike and other celebrities, who wore his signature style “The process!” To Quote Rev. Ike, “you can’t lose with the stuff he used.” In his early years he often relocated working at salons in Norfolk VA, Atlanta, GA, Brooklyn, NY (with his sister Shirley), at shop’s in Richmond and in Petersburg, VA. In Petersburg he worked at Virginia State University and later with his sister-in-law Carolyn.
While working at Carolyn’s House of Beauty, he inspired his nieces Karen, Katrina, Michele, Tammie to join the beauty industry. Timothy was innovative with an unparalleled talent, working with big names in his industry; he was molded into an artist and master stylist. Through his association with chemist and hair dresser Jheri Redding, he was the first in Petersburg to specialize in styles such as the “Finger Wave” and "Jheri-Curl,” at Carolyn’s House of Beauty. He also had a talent second to none, for fashioning eyebrows. He carried his razor blade on his hip and was the drop-in eyebrow artist at Karen’s House of Beauty. Customers would travel for miles to have him arch their brows. In addition to his artistry and talent in the beauty industry, he was known for his heart warming personality and belly roaring laughter. Everyone he knew had a hilarious nick name that humored him (if no one else). To know Tim, was to love "Tim."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Hannah Mayfield; siblings, Douglas, and Thomas (Barbara); sister, Shirley; daughter, Yolanda; nephew, Thomas Jr. and Corey Mayfield; aunts, Lucy Scott, Lucille Brown, Ruth Smith, Annie Smith and Julia Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted brother, Reverend Frank Mayfield (Carolyn) of Ettrick, VA, who visited him daily, leaving him words of inspiration; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Carolyn Mayfield;a loving and devoted daughter, Vonda Kaye of Waverly, who visited her dad often and brought him his favorite strawberry milkshake; his generous son, Kenneth Mayfield of Waverly; two daughters, Savana Hannah and Alexis Linda Forester of Brooklyn, NY; three granddaughters, Aria Mayfield of Petersburg, Cassie and Casey Bermudez of Brooklyn, NY.; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, among them Gary Mayfield of Petersburg who often visited his uncle, Douglas “Sweets” Graham of Chesterfield, and Karen Harris of Chester, he affectionately called “Amazon.”; there were two special women in his life, he married, Earnie Mayfield Clanton of Waverly, VA, his high school sweetheart. Tim affectionately called her Loretta and would recognize her face and call her name when she visited him. He clung to his faded memory of her. Also, his former wife Bonnie Harden of Richmond, his "ride or die" for many years. Both wives left a lasting imprint in Timothy’s heart.
Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. Interment to follow at Hunting Quarter Baptist Church Cemetery.

I send my condolences to Vonda, Carolyn, Frank, and the entire Mayfield Family. I am thinking of all of you in your time of sorrow. I really admired walking by his work place when I was a teenager and looking at his neatly coiffured hair. He was so well dressed. Rest in Peace, Tim.

I remember Timothy from Brown's House of Styles on South Avenue in Petersburg. As a young teen - I was star struck by the guys who wore the pretty processes with the waves and curls. Only those familiar will understand that terminology. God bless his legacy, may he rest in Peace!
