SORRY FOR THE LOSS, BUT SO TOUCHED BY THE ROMANTIC AND SWEET ENDING.
Mary McDonald
March 24, 2014
I am so deeply saddened by the loss of these 2 wonderful people.
Uncle Tom has always seemed larger than life to me since I was a child. A mans man with integrity and true kindness.
Naomi was a stunning, classic beauty. As I grew up knowing her, I found her to be very caring, loving and fun to be around.
They both had quite the sense of humor. Uncle Tom with his practical jokes, often using his exotic critters as the butt of these jokes.
They will be missed by all of us who's lives they have touched.
My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.
TOM & NAOMI SHIRLEY
They lived and loved together, laughed and cried together and now passed together only to be joined into their eternal life.... sharing a new everlasting adventure.
With love,
Tina Lane

From the 1950s on, Tom Shirley was a name you knew if you loved the Glades. Make no mistake about it, the Glades was Tom's territory and you had better not do anything that would harm it or the critters in it. I remember Naomi when she worked for Silver Drugs on 27th Avenue in Golden Glades back in the early 60s. I think she managed the place, a very impressive lady. All the best to the Shirley family.

Words do not express the magnitude of these losses to the Gladesman culture and South Florida history... A truly remarkable and loving couple that served as an inspiration to all that had the privilege of getting to meet them.
May the lord bless their shared journey!

I had the privilege of working with Tom back in the late 60s when I worked at the GFC office in Kendall. He was unfailingly kind, always a gentleman, and loved the Everglades almost as much as he loved Naomi and the kids. He is a true legend. Rest in peace dear friends.

Tom and I both went to Miami Jackson High School where we graduated in 1949. We spent many nights and days in the everglades, hunting, fishing and catching snakes. I am so happy, he was able to fulfill the reminder of his life doing what he loved.
We are so sorry for the family for such a sudden departure of Naomi and Tom. Our prayers are with all of you at this time of sorrow.
Love in Christ,
Joe and Betty Crabb

To the family my sincere love and prayers. How lucky and blessed you all were to have them as parents, grandparents, etc. I knew Officer Shirley through my dads radiator shop and mutual friends in the Game Warden division. When I was younger I wanted to grow up to be a Game Warden because of Officer Shirley and a couple of other Wardens that we knew. I met Mrs Shirley a few times and she was a wonderful person. To see the two of them together was to see what true love was. My heart hurts at the loss but joyous in the fact that they are still together. God thank you for sharing them with us and letting them walk through our lives. God bless you all.
