Tom Berkej Sr. 72, of Tucson passed away on April 26, 2009. Tom graduated from Tucson High School in 1957 and then joined the Air Force. He then worked and retired from Sunnyside School District. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jan. Tom leaves behind his daughter, Tammie (Phil); son, Tom Jr. and six beautiful grandchildren, Nick, Victor, Rodney, Ronnie, Ryan and his only girl, Rockie. (Dad, they'll know that there is no such word as "can't" and that they can do anything they want in life just like you taught us). We invite friends and family to join us in a Celebration of his life on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 31 W. Los Realos, the Mission View Retirement Club House from 1:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m.

Dear Jan and family,

I just learned of Tom's death and wanted to convey my condolences.

I was the Maintenance secretary at Sunnyside for many years and working with Tom was a pleasure. He was always willing to do anything to help the students and employees of the district.

I'm sure you have so many wonderful memories of Tom as a family member, but I wanted to let you know that he was a well respected co-worker and friend as well.

We are very sorry to hear about Tom's passing. While my wife, Nancy McKale did not know Tom very well, she knew Dennis Berkej vwery well as they were active in the Lutheran church's youth group. I met Dennis through Nancy. We are trying to locate Dennis as we have lost touch with him since high school. Also, Terry Anderson, who sang with Dennis in CHoir, I believe and other singing groups at Tucson High, Class of 57. Terry is very eagar to talk with Dennis as they were close friends in high school. Tom's smile is second to none. You couldn't help but smile when his face broke out in that big grin of his. That's exactly how I remember him. Nobody loves their family more than Tom, or is more devoted to those he loves. I wish you much joy in sharing the happy memories he left behind as part of his legacy.
