Tom Pratt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 22 to Nov. 23, 2017.
Tom Doxey Pratt
1934 - 2017
Tom died peacefully at home in Park City on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at the age of 82. He was born Dec. 23, 1934 in Salt Lake City, the 2nd of 4 sons of Georgia Doxey and Chester Case Pratt. He graduated from East High School where he was voted "Mr. Touchdown" in 1952 and later attended the University of Utah. He married Josephine Urevig in 1956. They enjoyed over 60 happy years together while raising 5 children.
After starting out as a heavy machinery salesman, he built up his own filter company to the point he was able to retire in his early 50's. He was a man's man. He was a lifelong hunter, adventurer, horseshoe champ, wildflower expert and avid outdoorsman. He could build anything, which included the family cabin in Holiday Park and a 35 ft. sailboat, "Cold Duck". He was an ocean sailor and a Commander in the Coastguard Auxiliary. Tom and Jo spent the summers camping and hiking and the winters in Yuma, AZ for the last 25 years.
He is survived by his wife and five children: Timothy (Terese), Jennifer Starr (Kevin), Mary Beth Yenna (Herbert Singleton), Ted (Cindie), and William (Bret Hanna), 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Joel and Randall. Preceded in death by parents and brother James.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your favorite charity.
Online condolences may be offered and a tribute video slideshow may be viewed at www.starksfuneral.com.
Vaya con Dios, my Love.

My Uncle Tom was often a man a few words, but always shared a smile with me. I enjoyed sitting on the screen porch with him during the Summers growing up at the cabin. He was incredibly intelligent about all things flora and fauna, and raised five incredible children alongside my aunt Josephine. I will hold on to the happy memories.

Joel

I haven't seen you in many years but I always remember the fun we had at the cabin. My condolences to you and your family on your loss and my prayers are with you.

Tom was our dockmate for years on the Great Salt Lake. After his first incomplete " Tahiti Run ", Tom shared some of the great stories of their good times off the coast of Mexico instead.
When it came to needing tools for working on our boats, Tom was the first one to ask, as he even had a tidy machine shop in the engine room of Cold Duck. He will be missed... gentle winds and good anchorages to you Tom !

My dear cousin Tom doing what he loved .... looking at flowers!
