Tom Watson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2011.
Dr. Tom B. Watson was born May 12, 1921, in Locust Bayou, Arkansas, and died November 14, 2011 in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was the son of William Robert Watson and Sarah Mittie Steelman Watson, who preceded him in death, along with his first wife, Colleen; one daughter, Patty Oxford; one granddaughter, Mary Libertus; brothers, Homer, Hubert, Hamilton Ray and Robert, and sisters, Carrie, Mittie Ruth, and Annie Mae. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Watson, of the home; one brother, Bill S. Watson and Claudia of Hope; three daughters, Kathy Robinette and David of Green Forest; Tommi Featherston and Billy of Elm Springs; and Sharon Cashmore and Mark of Rogers. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Dr. Watson was a veteran of World War II, having served as a bombardier/navigator stationed at Metfield Air Base in England. He was a veterinarian for 62 years, and worked as a USDA Veterinary Inspector for more than 20 years. He was always a farmer at heart and owned and operated several farming operations over the years. He remained an avid gardener, even at the age of 90, and he had spent the past 35 years in Lavaca, Arkansas.

Tom Watson lived a life of honor, duty, and truth. He was raised by his parents in the Baptist faith, but he developed his own close personal commitment to Christ. His relationship with God directed him in the decisions he made in his daily life and in the way he treated every person he met. He will be missed by those of us who looked to him for wisdom and guidance and who have a deep respect for the way he lived his life. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

A memorial service for Tom will be held at Callison Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2pm. Online condolences can be made at www.callisonlough.com.

Tom was my Grandpa. He was pretty much the only father figure to my brother and a best friend to me. Anyone who met my Grandpa was a friend when they left. My Grandpa was a very devoted Christian and will be deeply missed by all.

Doc was a dear friend to our family. We all loved him. He was always in good humor and willing to help you out when he could. He has come to the aide of more of our sick animals than I can count. He and Thelma both are just lovely people. He will be missed very much. Our deepest sympathy to Thelma and family for your loss. Our prayers are with you. Uncle Tom~You were my idol, I looked up to you in so many ways event miles apart. I wanted to be a vet just like you. I couldnt make it past the blood..I have healers because of Queenie. I will always remember going on farm calls with you and riding horses to check the cows. Best memories I have of Arkansas are with you. And picking flowers in the cow field for Aunt Thelma. I enjoyed every moment with you two.. My heart is sad you are gone. I wish I could have spent more time. All my love to you and Aunt Thelma. You are the best Doc and will be missed by many. xxoo

I feel very lucky to have known Tom Watson. He shared some advice with Will and I a few days ago. He said his parents taught him as a young boy to live his life with the following principles: honesty, responsibility, to never consider yourself inferior or superior to anyone else, and of course his faith. Tom was a model Christian and his faith was truly inspiring. He will be missed.

Thelma, Kathy, Tommi & all the family: I just learned about Tom's passing this morning. I regret I will not be able to attend his service. I've known Tom since 1965, is that right, Kathy? He definitely was a man of integrity, who loved God, his family, church, friends, & co-workers, and even the friends of his daughters! The last time I saw Tom was at our church in Green Forest & he was still a strong, bear of a man. I'm very sorry for this loss as it will impact so many people. Blessings to all of you.

I only met Tom a couple of times, but I know that Patti really loved and respected him. She was a great reader of people, so I know he was a great guy. Thelma I am very sorry for your loss.

What can you say about Tom B.? He was the epitome of how to live your life right. Tom was always there for you and he never met a stranger. He lived his life as a true Christian. I am sure that now he is at God's side running His portfolio and will double it's size in 12 months. Tom has always been the rock of our family and will be truly missed by us all. It was an honor to know you Tom and be able to call you my friend. Enjoy your time with your Maker and Inspiration. We love you, and miss you, and will always remember you.
