Tommy Elton Griffin, 73, of Waxahachie, Texas left suffering behind for a home in heaven on Thursday, October 12.
The oldest of three children, Tommy was born on April 10, 1944 to Thomas and Edna Arzette Griffin in Kosciusko, Mississippi. In 1951 the family moved to Waxahachie, Texas. He graduated Waxahachie High School in 1962, where he played football, ran track, and was a member of Future Farmers of America. Following high school, he joined the Marines and married Barbara Thomas. They had three children Angie, Tina, and Tommy Jr.
He was selected as the Sergeant Major of the 14th Marine Regiment, which consisted of approximately 7,000 Marines. He graduated from Sergeant Major Training at Quantico and he continued his Marines seniors training at Quantico. He insisted that his Military success was due to being surrounding by talented officers, staff and COs.
While serving in the Reserves he went to work at DuPont. He brought his organizational and leadership skills from the Marines to DuPont, and literally changed the way a division of one of the world’s largest companies operates - rolling out an innovative, outsourced model to their production plants around the globe. He wrapped up a stellar career at DuPont by landing the Division a $200M, 5-year contract, ensuring revenue and jobs for those who followed him.
In 1986 Tommy married Wanda Cote and gained son Ernie. After Wanda’s death, Tommy remarried Barbara Lambert in 2008.
Tommy is survived by his much loved family consisting of brother Sam Griffin (Caron); sister Ann Hyles; children Angie Griffin (Kat), Tina White (John), Tommy Griffin Jr. (Kara), Ernie Cote (Leslie), Valli Stewart (Andrew), and Mike Plog (Shannon); grandchildren Natalie White, Brenna White, Emma Stewart, Andy Red, Kirk Stewart, Zoe Cote, Jillian Griffin, Foster Cote, Elijah Plog, and Ryleigh Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

We are shocked and saddened to learn of Tommys passing (through the Semper Fidelis magazine). He was best man at our wedding in 1987. Would appreciate hearing from a family member. 903/569-7814. Bob & Deannie Diseker

My dear husband, I choose to think of your freedom from suffering. So many of us are grieving as we miss your person here with us; however, you have won this last battle to claim your home with our loving Savior, who laid down his life that we adopted children of God can join you in Heaven. Tommy, we miss you so, but are thankful your brave battle is won. Valiant warrior, you may rest in Jesus now. I know you know you have been so loved here on earth. Semper Fi ! Yes, Always faithful. Loving wife, Barb Lambert-Griffn

I am one of the many blessed by knowing Tommy. I was very young starting off with DuPont. Tommy was one of the Good Ole Guys that took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. Taught me how to treat the customers and just get 'er done! The respect I have for you is immeasurable. The love infinite. The stories span for hours/days. You will always hold a special place in the hearts of many. I am honored...you will be missed. My heart is broken. I stand in salute of Sergeant Major Tommy Griffin. Thank you for sharing you with me! My condolences to your family...Rest in peace and watch over everyone as you always have done.

I will be eternally grateful for the privilege and blessing of being a classmate, close friend and brother in Christ of Tom Griffin. I thank God that Tom's spirit has entered a realm far more beautiful and glorious than the human mind can begin to comprehend. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1Cor. 2:9

I love you and will miss you every day. You have been not just my father, but also my friend. You were always the calming voice of reason when things seemed most fractured in my world. There aren't enough words to let everyone know how truly blessed I am to have had such a wonderful dad.

Tommy is a mans man. Always the gentleman. I have fond memories of Chevitz Regal Scotch, shotguns and laughter. The scotch came after the hunt, the laughter was perpetual. The scotch, well let's say that it was respected.
Tommy influenced my life personally and professionally. I will never forget him.

To the Griffin Family:
Sue and I send our condolences to Barbara and all of Tommy's family in this time of sadness. We are so privileged to have known Tommy as he was a kind and dedicated person. I worked with Tommy for nearly 20 years in our DuPont Heavy Duty Truck and "A" business. He led our business at Peterbilt as Corporate Account Manager with strong leadership, relationships, and gentle persuasion. He was also a dedicated Marine who served his country with honor.
Mostly, we will miss Tommy's love for life, his dry sense of humor, and his outdoor spirit of adventure and camaraderie. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. May Tommy now rest in God's loving hands. Dave & Sue Lazzeri
