Toni McGinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 6 to Nov. 7, 2018.
Toni Ann McGinn, 71, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. She was born Aug. 3, 1947 in Midland, Michigan to Keith and Donna (Foutch) Glasgow. She graduated from Gladwin High School in 1965. Toni worked for Michigan National Bank, which included a transfer to Rapid City, South Dakota. After returning to Michigan, she began what would be her most significant role, President of the Lobby for Borders Group, Inc. in Ann Arbor, where her love for books and people created a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. After Borders closed in 2011, Toni was recruited for her famously elegant handwriting by the BINC Foundation. She volunteered her time writing invites and thank-you cards until relocating to Gladwin to be closer to family.
Toni's loves included her award-winning landscaping, birds, books, Prince, New York Times crossword puzzles, Foutch family reunions, elephants, John Lennon, unsweetened iced tea, Detroit Tigers, Steve Harvey, garage sales, being a Democrat, and most of all-the sun. Toni was solar powered. She was generous, ornery, stubborn, joyous, eccentric and funny-often in the same minute. Toni spoke from her heart; deliberately and unapologetically sharing her thoughts, frequently in an effort to make her audience cringe. By the same token, she ended every conversation with "I love you dearly".
Toni is preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Donna Glasgow, and brothers, Michael and Charles Glasgow. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Sarah Barber; brother, Victor (Marilyn) Stanley; sisters, Sharon Glasgow and Marta Smith; grandson, Caimen Barber; dear friend, Carl Betterly; family, friends, and her Borders Group fan club.
A celebration of Toni's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, from 12-5 p.m. at the Butman Township Hall, 5005 N. Hockaday Road, Gladwin, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BINC Foundation, bincfoundation.org.

Toni was and is a true legend. Her wit and her sense of humor will be remembered forever and she will be greatly missed. Borders would not have been the same had she not been an integral part of the experience.

My last wonderful, loving letter from Toni was in August. She stayed close after Borders closing. When I entered the Borders lobby she always had a smile, stood up and said "Marilyn!". So wish we could have visited once more. "I took the road less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." I love you dear friend.
