Tony Schanel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2015.

Anthony Charles Schanel, April 3, 1975 - June 29, 2015.....

Tony was infamous for his perfectly timed one-liners, being a MacGyver, a master chef, and a fisherman.

Fishing and the love of the water ran deep within his veins... It all started when his father Brian

Schanel and his mother Myra Schanel took him and his two siblings, Ashley Stewart and William

“Bill” Schanel to their Grandpa George’s dock and taught them how to fish. Of course this was

only accomplished by Brian and Myra buying the kids cheese and cracker snack packs at the

local bait shop. The Schanel’s loved spending quality time together at the beach. It’s been said

that as a child, Tony (aka Tony bologna cheese and macaroni), would collect dead crabs instead

of shells during their family beach walks.

Working with his family at Sanford Scale, as a third generation scale man, he traveled

extensively with them, leaving an impact on all of those who met him. His dad always said

“Tony you are Sanford Scale”. If you walk around Sanford and mention Tony’s name, there

would be very few people that wouldn’t be able to share a story whether it be a funny or one

where Tony was there to help them out. That was the type of man that Tony was.... He’d give

you the shirt off his back and his last dollar and never ask for anything in return, but if you knew

him well you’d know that you’d never live it down either.

Tony married his best friend and high school sweetheart Kristy on April 18, 1998, with whom had

their two kids Jacob (15) and Taylor (12). He taught them the essentials in life being

fishing, how to select the proper power tools, the power of sarcasm, and most importantly,

giving his family nothing less than his unconditional love and attention. He took great pride in

his family including the four legged members.

He took fashion cues from no one- even though his wife has excellent fashion sense. He could

always be found in his white crocs, Costa’s, scruffy t-shirts and tatty shorts. If you were lucky

enough to see him dressed up, you knew that it was only because his wife threatened him with

bodily harm.

Tony had a heart the size of Sanford and had the unique gift of making people laugh and will be

missed but forever loved.

Services will be held Tuesday, July 7th, 10am at Central Baptist Church, 3101 W. State Rd 46,

Sanford, FL, 32771.

I didn't know Tony well but what I did know of him was that he loved his wife and family and was one of the nicest, most genuine guys I've had the pleasure of meeting. My heart goes out to the Schanel family. Praying for comfort, strength, and an abundance of love for you all during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the whole Schanel family at this most difficult time. Words can not express how sorry Dave and I are. Although I did not know Tony as well as Dave, I felt I knew him from the stories Dave would share after their diving excursions. I would catch Dave chuckling and ask him what was so funny and he would say...Tony and his one liners!! He would keep the boat laughing all day. It is such a tragedy to have someone so young taken so suddenly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Tony was one of a kind and he will be missed by all.

I personally only knew Tony on a professional level. He and Sanford Scale have serviced the needs of many a concrete batch plant. If his professionalism is a mirror of the man he is for his freinds and family I know he will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers to all.

So many funny memories! One of my favourites has to be all of us waiting for him and Tom LaRose to turn up so we could go to Rob and Siona's for the paddy's paddle party!
They finally showed up over an hour late giggling away with the sorry excuse that they were trying to find the owner of a mail box they had accidentally reversed into. "Whatever" was everybody's response and then hey presto!!!!
They pulled the smashed up mail box from the car and dumped it in my garage!
Took me bloody ages to get rid of that thing!

I met Tony thru Spear board and Walter, divi g with him was an awesome experience. I couldn't tell you how much Tony loved being underwater doing what we all love. I can still see the looks of his eyes the first time I came and dumped over 20 lobster on the deck it was a smile from ears to ears!

I miss you man!
