On Sunday, February 8, 2004, Torrence "Tod" Miller Hunt, Sr., age 82, of Pittsburgh died; beloved husband of the late Joan Kilner Hunt who died on August 28, 2002; loving father of Torrence Miller Hunt,Jr (Mary Caroline), Daniel Kilner Hunt (Joan), Dr. Christopher Miller Hunt (Elizabeth), and Rachel Hunt Knowles (William); cherished grandfather of Cathryn Joan Hunt, Caroline Hope Hunt, Torrence Williams Baker Hunt, Bonnie Baker Kilner Hunt, Alfred James Hunt, Alexandra Kilner Hunt, Lila Castle Hunt, Rachel Seelye Sage Hunt, Joan Firth Scott, William Stevenson Knowles, Jr., Brian Hughes Knowles, Justin Chandler Knowles; grandson of ALCOA founder Alfred E. Hunt; son of the late Roy A. Hunt, Sr. and the late Rachel McMasters Miller Hunt of Pittsburgh; brother of Richard M. Hunt of Cambridge, MA, and the late Alfred M. Hunt and the late Roy A. Hunt, Jr., both of Pittsburgh. Born in Pittsburgh, he matriculated at the Choate School, Wallingford, CT and Williams College, Willamstown, MA. He married Joan Kilner Hunt in Greenwich, CT on June 17, 1944. He was a retired Vice President of the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA). He also was Senior Trustee of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation and Senior Director of The Elmhurst Group. He was active in many civic and wildlife/conservation organizations. He was Emeritus Life Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University, Honorary Director of The Western Pennsylvania Healthcare Systems; Honorary Trustee of the Eye & Ear Institute of Pittsburgh; Vice President and Manager of Allegheny Cemetery; Chairman and President of Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association; Trustee of Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation. He was a Life Sponsor, Director/Vice President, Executive Committee Member of Game Conservation International (GAME COIN); Life Sponsor Member and former National Director of the Ruffed Grouse Society; Life Sponsor Member of Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited; Life Member of North American Wild Sheep; Member of Shikar Safari Club International and Trustee of Shikar Safari Club International Foundation; National Member of Sarari Club International; Member of Dallas Safari Club; Former Director of Pennsylvania Grouse Association; Life Member of International Professional Hunters Association (IPHA) and Professional Hunters Association of South Africa (PHASA); Honorary Hunters Association; Member of East African Wildlife Society, African Wildlife Foundation, American pheasant and Waterfowl Society, North American Game Breeders and Shooting Preserve Association, Pennsylvania Game Breeders Association, National Rifle Association (NRA), World Wildlife Foundation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation; National Shooting Sports Foundation, and Pittsburgh Sportsmen's Luncheon Club. Recipient of the Pittsburgh Sportsmen's Luncheon Club "Sportsmen's Award of the Year." He was a member of the Church of the Ascension, in which he was involved for many years. His club memberships included the Rolling Rock Club, Ligionier; the Duquesne Club; HYP- Pittsburgh Club; Fox Chapel Golf Club; The Pittsburgh Golf Club; the Angler's Club of New York; Williams Club of New York; and the St. Andrew's Club, Delray Beach, FL. He was active in hosting receptions and other activities at The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University. He served during World War II as first lieutenant in the Army Ordinance Corps in the Pacific Theater from June 10, 1943 unitl October 24, 1946. He went on many safari and shikar trips to Africa, Asia, Europe, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea (South Pacific). Friends may call from 7-9pm on Tuesday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Wednesday at H. SAMSON, INC. 537 N. Neville Street, Oakland. Services will be held at the Church of the Ascension, Ellsworth Avenue at North Neville Street, Oakland, on Thursday at 11am. Interment will be private at Allegheny Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Ave., Pgh, PA 15213-3890.

I knew Tod from my work in the Corporate Secretary's Department at Alcoa. I always appreciated his attitude toward balancing work and enjoyment of life. My family and I offer our sincere condolences.
