Trang Huyen Tu

Trang Huyen Tu, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on May 28th, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born in 1942 in Hue, Vietnam, she was the eldest of ten children. Trang was an accomplished student and was known for her joyful and optimistic nature. She was passionate, charming, and lived life with a strong sense of purpose.

She came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, where she studied English at Ohio State University. It was during this formative period that she met her future husband, Joseph Hoang Thanh Tu. After finishing her degree, she returned to Vietnam for a few years, but the pull of the United States was strong. She returned as a teacher, eventually joining the US Foreign Service. Her greatest professional accomplishment was to become the editor of the Vietnamese service of the Voice of America, becoming a trusted source of news and information for millions of listeners.

Beyond her professional life, she cherished her family above all else. She married Joseph and had two sons, Albert and Thomas. Eventually she became a grandmother to six. To her family she was a pillar of sensibility and strength. Her enduring spirit lives on in our hearts.

She leaves behind Joseph, Thomas, daughters-in-law Mai Huong and Amanda, and grandchildren, David, Amanda, Michael, Allison, Michelle, and Julia in addition to brothers and sisters and their families.

She was preceded in death by her son, Albert.

A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, June 29, at the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA. Visitation will be 11a-1p. A Buddhist service will be held at noon and a remembrance will start at 1pm and is open to all that wish to share their thoughts.
