Travis Gunter of McAllen, Tx went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2023 at the age of 50. Travis was born Sept. 14, 1973 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Travis graduated from Midland High School in 1992. He attended Midland College and earned his Associates Degree, then attended Baylor University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Travis returned to Midland to work before he went back to Baylor to get his Masters in Business Administration.

After graduating with his MBA, Travis joined the United States Army and was given a direct commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the Army. While serving in the Army, Travis was stationed in Korea for a number of years before returning to the US where he was stationed at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky. His career eventually led him to South Texas. He worked as a GEMS Coordinator Program Manager for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network.

Travis was a talented guitar player and singer. He loved playing and singing with his father and entertaining all of his friends and family throughout his life. He was always a big hit when he had the mic and at any karaoke event. Travis was also an avid sports fan; he loved football and baseball, but especially the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. He was a motorcycle enthusiast with his Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. Travis was a lifetime member of the VFW and found friends all over the US and the world at local VFWs. He was an advocate for all veterans, loved serving his country and honored those who had served.

Travis is survived by his mother Gwen Gunter of Midland, his father and stepmother Lisa & Herman Gunter of Midland, sisters and brothers-in-law Amanda & Joshua Rimer of Midland and Ashley & Alan Gumm of Midland, nephew Samuel Rimer and niece Riley Gumm, his aunt and uncles, Judy & Dennis Wilhite of Abilene and Jim Tyler of Edmond, OK, numerous cousins, and his beloved shih-tzus Maizy and Kobe.

Travis is preceded in death by his grandparents Herman & Irene Gunter and John & Lou Ann Griffith, and his aunts Jill Nail, Margie Thorton, Jo Doss, Linda Hamilton, Sandy Tyler, Connie Snowden and Nancy Johnson, and his devoted shih-tzu and best buddy Buddy.

A special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, TX, to his devoted friends at the VFW Post 8788 in McAllen, and to Ms. Joyce Whitley.

Celebration of life service will be at First Baptist Church of Midland Chapel on Monday January 29th at 2 pm with a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park to follow.

I knew Travis when he was an intern at the Minnesota. As he progressed through his VA career we would get together every so often. He was a good man and a good friend and we celebrated together multiple times. I will miss him . -- George
