Travis Edward McPhaul, age 85, of Lexington, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home.

He was born February 13, 1928 in McDade, Bastrop County, Texas, to Gaston and Grace McPhaul.

Travis was devoted to his family, his church, the Masonic Lodge, and veterans' activities. His military service in the U.S. Army as a parachutist and with the occupation troops in Japan was a source of pride.

Travis made everyone with whom he came in contact feel welcome and important; many people came to him for advice, support, and for a share of the wisdom he had gathered and displayed throughout his life.

To the grandchildren, he was known as "Pop", and nothing pleased him more than telling them stories or letting them drive him around the pasture in his old truck.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Wuneburger McPhaul.

Travis is survived by sons Scott and Wayne McPhaul, daughter Sharon Alston, grandchildren Zach Alston, Micah Alston, Brittany Crosson, Will McPhaul, Kelly Winfield, Tanner McPhaul, Colton McPhaul, great-grandchildren Rowdy Crosson and Reilly Alston, and sisters Iris Hayes and Mary Jo Park, as well as host of other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2014 , Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas.
A Celebration of Travis' Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014, Knobbs Springs Baptist Church near McDade, Texas, Rev. Gary McManus presiding. Masonic graveside services with Military honors will follow at the McDade Cemetery

I have just received the news about Mr. McPhaul's passing. I have such fond memories of the McPhaul's from my childhood. Scott, Wayne & Sharon, I will be praying for you. I recently lost my daddy as well and know of the pain associated with such a great loss.
Maybe one day we can get together and talk about old times!

I am disappointed that it was not possible for me to attend the services of this great man. He was a good friend and brother Mason, who taught me much. My prayers are with all of you. God Bless you and give you peace.

Dear family,
We want to send heartfelt condolences. I will always be grateful to Mr. McPhaul for his kindness shown to my family in serving as a pallbearer at my dad's funeral in 2003. He was also there representing Masons. He offered a friendship to my dad in the short time that my dad lived in Lexington. He will be missed.
