It's been over two years now that you've been gone and the pain does not ease. I know you wouldn't approve of any moping--but I can't help it. Still, as you once told me, all I need to do is think of "some daft thing that you once said or did at when I'm feeling down and have a good laugh. And I do. I am so grateful to you for having filled my life with so many precious moments of mirth, merriment, and warmth. You were an unforgettable and spectacular friend.

I'll never forget the day that Lou rang me to tell me you had died, I still can't believe you're gone. Too short your life was, but you lived it on your own terms, often you said to me arr stuff it life's to short. From before light till after dark in London to an office to the Great Barrier Reef, writing articles for fishing magazines stickin it to the banks, Lord Eley, Chucky, Tris, My Friend, My Brother. It's not tragic to die doing what you love' and you always tried to enjoy what you did. My Best mate, I Salute You.

It's been over 20 years since I last spoke with Mr. Eley, but the kindness he showed me during one of my most difficult times has not been forgotten. May his family find strength in his memory.

Tristram, I remember you way back at Varndean Grammar school. You were a real gentleman and I will never forget your terrific rendition of the passage from Toad of Toad hall! I also remember you trying patiently to explain to me,how to make vodka out of potatoes! God bless you Tristram, and rest in peace.

I remember those all night fishing trips, drinking hot coffee laced with whiskey. Always a warm welcome from your mother at home. Evenings spent playing pool and time spent at the Crown& Anchor. And of course all those priceless school day memories. Good memories of a friend with tremendous warm and humour. If only you had caught a smaller fish ...... You will be missed for sure. Ant Cox
