Services for Troy Lee Cox, 74, of Gun Barrel City are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Brent Tucker officiating.Burial will follow in Ebeneezer Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Mr. Cox died Sunday, April 19, 2009, in Athens.He was born in Pittsburg Texas on Aug. 30, 1934. He was a peace officer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He served as a distinguished Dallas Police officer for 28 years and was a 38-year member of the First Baptist Church of Mabank. He and his wife faithfully served their community through years of volunteer work in local nursing homes and the Mabank Good Samaritans Community Food Bank.Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jo Cox of Gun Barrel City; son, Jerry Cox and wife, Teresa, of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Colleen Cheek and husband Joe of Mabank, Texas, Connie Christopher and husband, Dale, of Athens, and Cindy Tanner and husband, Douglas, of Katy, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Faye O'Daniel of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many other family members and a host of friends.Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
